“Roberts Rankings”-Baseball

Here are my final 2023 high school baseball rankings for the Berks League. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!

The baseball season ended Saturday with the conclusion of the PIAA playoffs. Kutztown was the last team standing from the BCIAA. The Cougars reached the Class 2A semifinals before falling to District 6 powerhouse Mount Union 5-2. Congratulations to Coach Mertz and his staff for bringing home the program’s sixth District 3 championship.

Gov. Mifflin was #1 in my preseason poll and that’s where the Mustangs end up. They captured their 15th Berks County title this year. Although two-time Berks Player of the Year Tyler Minick is moving on to UConn, Gov. Mifflin will be bringing back plenty of talent in 2024. Wilson turned its season around in late April. The Bulldogs advanced to the BCIAA Championship Game, District 3-6A Final, and PIAA tournament. Muhlenberg also qualified for the state playoffs, one of three Berks County teams to do so. Fleetwood earned the Division 2 crown and made it to the county semifinals. Exeter showed that when Deven Sheerin was on the mound, the Eagles could compete with anyone. They upset second-seeded Gov. Mifflin 4-1 in the first round of the District 3-5A tournament. That was also career victory #300 for longtime head coach Justin Freese. After coming up short against Fleetwood in the county quarterfinals, Kutztown bounced back in the District 3-2A playoffs. Their five senior starters will be difficult to replace. Oley Valley came out on top of the Division 3 standings in the Berks League. The Lynx will be a team to watch in 2024. They only had two seniors in the starting lineup. The #8 spot in my rankings came down to Berks Catholic and Brandywine Heights. The Bullets shutout the Saints 7-0 in the regular season to get the nod. Thanks to all of the coaches and players for making this another exciting season!
