Paul Roberts

Paul Roberts was born and raised in Berks County. He graduated magna cum laude from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Roberts earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1999. While at Syracuse, he became a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Roberts worked at two radio stations on campus, WAER and WJPZ.

Roberts started his professional radio career in June of 1999 at WEEU in Reading. He served as sports director, reporter, and color analyst for local football, basketball, and baseball games. Roberts also hosted the “Sports Democracy” talk show for two decades. He won six first-place awards from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters and Associated Press for “Best Radio Coverage of Local Sports” in a medium-sized market. He also received two second-place awards in that category.

Roberts quickly became known as a Berks County sports “insider” and a trustworthy source for breaking local news. His reputation as a hardworking and reliable member of the media, has led to outstanding relationships with coaches, athletic directors, and administrators for more than twenty years. Roberts is known for being both informative and entertaining.

His latest venture is providing content for “BerksSportsReport.com”. The mission statement of this website is “Giving Student-Athletes a Voice.” Roberts’ 1-on-1 interviews with the top athletes in the Reading and Berks County area have become extremely popular among students, parents, coaches and fans. The conversations also help the student-athletes improve their communication skills. This experience can assist them in the future when interviewing for an internship or a job; or when speaking to college recruiters.

Roberts is a die-hard sports fan. He considers himself very fortunate to be able to cover so many excellent athletic programs across Berks County. Most importantly, he enjoys being able to recognize the remarkable efforts of the student-athletes and coaches in this close-knit community!
