In a surprising move, I’ve learned that the Twin Valley School District is opening the position of head varsity football coach. Kris Olsen and his staff took the Raiders to new heights last year. They reached the District 3 playoffs for the first time in school history. It was Olsen’s first season at the helm in Elverson. Before becoming the head coach, Olsen served as Twin Valley’s offensive coordinator under Dean Owens. Olsen was told of the decision to open the position today. He declined to comment. Olsen guided the (6-5, 3-2) Raiders to their first winning season since 2007. They won four of their first five games, including a 37-34 double overtime thriller against Conrad Weiser in late September. Twin Valley earned the #13 seed in the District 3-5A tournament. The Raiders lost 33-6 at fourth-seeded Spring Grove in the opening round. The Raiders will have to replace Dominic Caruso and Trey Freeman. The pair of four-year starters both graduated this year. Caruso ended his career as Twin Valley’s all-time leading rusher. Freeman finished with the most receiving yards in Berks County history. Quarterback Evan Myers will return for his sophomore campaign. His father, Brett, was the head coach at Middletown for eight seasons. The Blue Raiders reached the Class 3A state championship game from 2016-‘18. Brett Myers is working in the Twin Valley School District. The Raiders had a large group of underclassmen in 2021. 32 of the 48 players on their roster were freshmen and sophomores. Twin Valley will be in Section 3 of the new Lancaster-Lebanon Football League in 2022.
