When a team averages 45 points, the offense is going to get a lot of attention. However, Wyomissing’s defense shouldn’t be overlooked. The (14-0) Spartans are giving up just 8.6 points per game. In four playoff games, Wyomissing’s opponents have managed a total of 31 points. Rory Filoon is tied for fourth on the team in tackles. Filoon described what it’s like to go up against 6’4, 310-pound OL Jven Williams at practice! Williams is a junior with multiple Division I offers. Filoon has two catches this season as the #2 tight end behind Richmond commit Aiden Mack. The 6’3, 185-pound senior loves getting the rare opportunity to get his hands on the football. Filoon was thrilled to recently receive an offer from Lock Haven. He knows that the PSAC is a high level of football. We also discussed his favorite pregame music and movie. Here’s a hint, Adam Sandler is the star. Plus, Filoon talked about his favorite teachers and classes at Wyomissing. The Spartans take on District 12 champ Neumann-Goretti in the Class 3A state semifinals on Friday at Pennridge High School. Filoon said the (12-1) Saints have a lot of speed. They’ve won eleven straight games. Wyomissing is only allowing 86 rushing yards and 135 total yards per game. Filoon mentioned the keys to slowing down Neumann-Goretti. After losing seven all-state selections to graduation, the Spartans are one victory away from getting back to the state final.
