“Roberts Rankings”-Girls Basketball

Here are my preseason rankings for the Berks County Girls Basketball League.  Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!  The records that you see below are from last season.

Exeter and Muhlenberg switched places for the 2022-23 campaign.  The Eagles are now in Division 2 and the Muhls are up in Division 1.  Gov. Mifflin has won three Berks County championships in the last four years and 14 overall.  When Taylor Koenig returns from injury, the Mustangs will be tough to beat again this season.

Berks Catholic, Wyomissing, and Wilson have a lot of talented young players.  Remember the names Sydney Corado, Madison Langdon, and Molly McFadden for the Saints.  The Spartans also have a skilled sophomore corps including Amaya Stewart.  She put up 10.5 points a night last season.  The Bulldogs are expected to start at least three freshmen.  Laila Jones has a bright future in West Lawn.  She’s the sister of all-state football player Cam Jones.  Yamilex Rodriguez, a sophomore guard at Reading, and Ryanna Hightower, a 6’1 sophomore at Muhlenberg, are two more underclassmen to keep an eye on.  Addison Benner is back at Brandywine Heights.  She averaged 14 points as a freshman for the Bullets a season ago.  You get the picture.  There’s a real youth movement in Berks County girls hoops.

The top senior is Alexis Hess from Fleetwood.  The Kansas State commit was one of the most highly recruited players in Berks County history with nearly 25 Division I offers.  Hess enters this season with 1,034 career points and 116 three-pointers.  The 6’1 guard poured in 19 ppg. a season ago.  Twin Valley lost its top three scorers to graduation, but Doug Myer’s teams are well known for playing solid defense.
