“Roberts Rankings”-Football

We have already passed the midway point of the high school football regular season. Four Berks County teams remain undefeated and two of them square off this Friday. I’ll be in Laureldale to see Muhlenberg battle Exeter. Six of the top eight teams in my poll won their Week 6 matchups. There are no changes in the rankings this week.

I wanted to follow up on a topic that I addressed last week. I mentioned that my poll is based solely on the results from this year. In my opinion, too many media outlets focus on what happened a season ago. A good example from Week 6 was the game between Conrad Weiser and Solanco. The Scouts were (10-1) in 2024, however, they only returned two starters on offense and four on defense. Meanwhile, Solanco brought back 19 starters. The Golden Mules beat Conrad Weiser 62-20 on Friday. These are much different teams in 2025 compared to last fall.

As I noted earlier, Exeter visits Muhlenberg this week. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 265-to-38. The Muhls are (6-0) for the first time since 2007. All-State running back Cam Small is closing in on 1,000 rushing yards this year. He has racked up 957 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns.

Wyomissing travels to Birdsboro for a Thursday night meeting with Daniel Boone. The Blazers are still hunting for their first victory.

Wilson is on the road this Friday against Hempfield. The (3-3) Black Knights are led by senior quarterback Derek Katch who is completing 65% of his passes. Katch has thrown for 1,113 yards with 10 TD and 4 INT. His top target is Orion Abrams. The 5’11, 180-pound junior receiver has 46 catches for 578 yards and six scores.

Twin Valley continues to dominate its foes. The Raiders have outscored the opposition 350-to-46. They head to Donegal on Friday. The (2-4) Indians are coming off a 48-22 loss at Wyomissing on Saturday.

Berks Catholic heads north to Kutztown for a 5pm kickoff this Saturday. The Cougars are (1-5), while the Saints have won four of their past five contests. These are two squads that like to keep the ball on the ground.

Gov. Mifflin is better than its record. The Mustangs have dropped three straight road games to Exeter, Muhlenberg, and Wilson. Those three teams are (17-1) combined! Gov. Mifflin has another tough test this Friday when Conestoga Valley comes to Shillington. The Buckskins are a perfect (6-0).

Conrad Weiser hosts Garden Spot this week. The (2-4) Spartans have lost three games by single digits. They fell to Warwick 20-17 last Friday. Speaking of Warwick, the (5-1) Warriors visit Fleetwood on Saturday night.

Without further ado, here is my poll for this week. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!
