Seven of the top eight teams in my poll won last week, but there are a few slight changes in the rankings. The top four remains the same, however, Conrad Weiser and Muhlenberg each moved up one spot. The Scouts used two late touchdowns to fend off ELCO 28-14, while the Muhls dominated Reading 48-0. Gov. Mifflin dropped two spots following a 45-13 loss to Perkiomen Valley in Shillington.
Wilson meets Nazareth in West Lawn this Friday. The (2-0) Blue Eagles have already scored 108 points. They beat the Bulldogs 35-31 in a thriller last year. Wilson led 31-28 at halftime and then Peyton Falzone broke free for a 50-yard TD run in the third quarter. The 6’5, 208-pound Auburn commit threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns against the Bulldogs. I’ll be at John Gurski Stadium for this marquee matchup.
Exeter quarterback Riley Martinez suffered a shoulder contusion at Boyertown. The good news for the Eagles is that they have an experienced backup QB in Jake Hafer. The All-State baseball player filled in for Martinez a season ago. Exeter takes on Pleasant Valley this week at Don Thomas Stadium. The (1-1) Bears fell to Gov. Mifflin 35-20 in Week 1.
Wyomissing faces the Academy of the New Church at Bob Wolfrum Field on Saturday afternoon. The (0-1) Lions dropped their opener to Holy Cross from New Jersey 33-13. The Spartans are coming off an impressive 29-26 victory over the Haverford School.
Twin Valley squares off with Simon Gratz on Friday night in Elverson. The (0-2) Bulldogs are trying to navigate a very difficult schedule. The Raiders have piled up 107 points in two games. Drew Engle and Lucas Myers combined for 263 rushing yards and five scores last week at Selinsgrove.
Conrad Weiser entertains Lebanon in Week 3. The (0-2) Cedars have been outscored 68-0. They’ve lost 44 consecutive games. Muhlenberg travels to Birdsboro to play Daniel Boone. The (0-2) Blazers have scored just seven points and allowed 106.
Gov. Mifflin tries to bounce back at home versus Hempfield on Friday. The (1-1) Black Knights are led by quarterback Derek Katch. The 6’1, 180-pound senior has completed 71% of his passes this year for 316 yards. Katch threw for 2,055 yards in 2024.
Berks Catholic hosts Bethlehem Catholic in Week 3. The (2-0) Hawks soared past Emmaus 35-14 last week. The Saints used a big second half to top Executive Education Academy 45-20. Aidan Curley and Xavier Gerald combined for 236 yards on the ground and 3 TD.
