The top five teams in my poll all won last week. Muhlenberg moves up one spot this week after beating Lebanon 55-36. The Muhls’ new turf field remains unplayable so Albright’s Shirk Stadium will be the site for Friday’s matchup with Gov. Mifflin. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm in that Section 2 battle.
Berks Catholic jumps back into my rankings this week. After missing a-half dozen starters against Bethlehem Catholic, the Saints got healthy versus Pequea Valley last Friday. Zach Suski was 9-of-13 for 190 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-6 rout. Nate Rose added 123 yards and a pair of scores on just nine carries. Berks Catholic visits Lancaster Catholic this week. The Crusaders have split their first four contests.
Reading fell out of my poll following a 50-6 loss to Wilson. The Red Knights trailed 41-0 at halftime. They’ve managed just 13 points combined in their last two games. Reading takes on Penn Manor at Millersville University this Friday. The (0-4) Comets lost 58-7 to Cedar Crest last week. Speaking of the Falcons, they meet Wilson at John Gurski Stadium on Friday. Cedar Crest is (3-1) under new head coach Nick Lambros.
Exeter travels to Lebanon this Friday. The Cedars have dropped 36 consecutive games. Junior quarterback Riley Martinez is 30-of-40 for 576 yards and 6 TD for the undefeated Eagles. Twin Valley continues to roll. The Raiders head to Octorara this week. The (3-1) Braves got past Daniel Boone and Kutztown by a total of eight points in their last two outings.
Wyomissing takes a trip to Lebanon County on Friday. The Spartans square off with ELCO. The (1-3) Raiders got thumped by Twin Valley 51-7 last week. There’s an intriguing matchup in Robesonia this Friday. Conrad Weiser is (4-0) for the first time since 2020. The Scouts play Manheim Central for just the second time. The Barons eliminated Conrad Weiser 42-7 in the District 3-3A semifinals back in 2009. Manheim Central has racked up 607 all-time wins and a record 18 District 3 titles. After putting up 44 points per game in 2023, the (2-2) Barons have scored 58 points combined this season.
Here are my Berks County high school football rankings as we enter Week 5. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!
