“Roberts Rankings”-Football

Week 1 of the high school football season is in the books. The top five teams in my poll all won. Wyomissing knocked off 14-time state champion Southern Columbia 35-21 at Bob Wolfrum Field. Exeter and Gov. Mifflin pitched shutouts against Daniel Boone and Pleasant Valley respectively. Twin Valley used a big first half to beat Berks Catholic 42-16. Wilson held off Cheltenham 28-20 on Saturday.

There are no changes in the first five spots of my rankings. Muhlenberg enters the poll after defeating Schuylkill Valley 29-20 on the new turf in Laureldale. The Panthers drop just one position. Berks Catholic falls out of my rankings. The Saints were #7 in the preseason.

Exeter takes on Boyertown and first-year head coach Jami Sands this Friday night. Wilson meets Plymouth-Whitemarsh in West Lawn. It’s one of only four home games for the Bulldogs in 2024. Twin Valley battles Selinsgrove in Elverson. The Seals got past Juniata 14-6 last week. Wyomissing travels to Haverford on Friday. That’s a rare 2pm kickoff. Gov. Mifflin travels to Perkiomen Valley. The Vikings fell to a talented Chester squad 19-14 in their opener. Reading and Muhlenberg square off for the “Battle of the Border” trophy at Shirk Stadium. Schuylkill Valley entertains Daniel Boone on Thursday night in Leesport. Conrad Weiser is also in action on Thursday. The Scouts are on the road against ELCO. The Raiders got thumped 33-6 at West York last week.

Here are my Berks County high school football rankings. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!
