Here are my Berks County high school football rankings. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow! I mentioned last week that it’s not wise to rush to judgment after one game. Several local squads bounced back in Week 2. In fact, seven of my top eight teams came out on top. Wilson lost an overtime slugfest against Central Dauphin. The Bulldogs may be winless, but I wouldn’t count them out. They take on Martin Luther King from Philadelphia on Friday.
Wyomissing moves up to #1 after hammering Pottsville. That’s the only change in my poll. The Spartans visit Messiah Mickens and Trinity this week. The sophomore running back has already committed to Penn State. Exeter hits the road to face West York. Twin Valley heads to Robesonia on Friday. Conrad Weiser is (0-2) and dealing with multiple injuries. Gov. Mifflin took down Carlisle 28-21. The Mustangs entertain Boyertown this week. The (1-1) Bears are coming off a 36-14 loss to Exeter.
Berks Catholic overcame a slow start versus Executive Education Academy Charter. The Saints pulled off a thrilling 19-14 victory. Berks Catholic meets another state-ranked club this week when Pope John Paul II comes to town. Reading travels to Red Lion in Week 3. The Red Knights have some momentum after knocking off neighboring Muhlenberg 25-7 at Shirk Stadium. Schuylkill Valley prevailed in a nailbiter against Upper Perkiomen 22-19. The Panthers square off with Susquenita on Friday in Leesport. Meanwhile, Upper Perk hosts Fleetwood.
