“Roberts Rankings”-Football

Here are my Berks County high school football rankings. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow! In sports, as in life, it’s not smart to rush to judgment. One game is a small sample size. It’s also important to consider the level of competition, as opposed to simply looking at final scores. Consequently, there are no changes in my poll this week.

Wilson faced one of the top Class 5A squads in the state and was within 20-14 of Roman Catholic in the third quarter. The Bulldogs host Central Dauphin this Friday and one team will leave John Gurski Stadium at (0-2). Wyomissing travels up Route 61 to Pottsville. The Spartans defeated Kennard-Dale 56-7. Freshman Justice Hardy had five carries for 82 yards and 2TD in his debut. He also made a 66-yard catch. Exeter visits Boyertown after maintaining the Pig Iron Trophy for the 11th straight year. The Eagles piled up 234 yards on the ground and 177 through the air versus Daniel Boone. Twin Valley’s Evan Johnson raced for 251 yards and two scores on 14 carries. The Raiders invade Lower Dauphin in Week 2.

Gov. Mifflin opened up with one of the contenders in the PAC. Spring-Ford corralled the Mustangs 49-19. Gov. Mifflin entertains Carlisle on Friday. Berks Catholic put forth a great effort at Loyalsock before falling 25-21. Bryce Gumby finished with 131 yards on just eight carries. The Saints’ challenging schedule continues with Executive Education Charter up next. Reading and Muhlenberg hook up at Shirk Stadium this week. Although Schuylkill Valley dropped its opener, the Panthers were only down 14-13 entering the fourth quarter at Twin Valley. Upper Perkiomen comes to Leesport in Week 2 after losing to Boyertown 33-26. Hamburg is on the road against Warrior Run. Ty Werley had five receptions for a whopping 253 yards and 3TD in a rout of Halifax.
