“Roberts Rankings”-Football

Here are my final Berks County high school football rankings. I was fortunate enough to cover 22 games involving local schools this season. Thanks to the coaches and athletic directors for their assistance. It’s greatly appreciated. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!

Wyomissing, Exeter, and Wilson were the top three squads in my preseason poll and they finished in the same order. The Spartans completed their 11th undefeated regular season. Bob Wolfrum became the winningest coach in District 3 history. The “Wizard of the Wing-T” is (350-87-1) over 36 years. Wyomissing claimed its fourth consecutive District 3 title. Exeter earned the Section 2 championship in the expanded Lancaster-Lebanon League. Matt Bauer surpassed 100 career victories (105-53). Wilson wrapped up its 47th straight winning season, a state record.

Twin Valley picked up its first District 3 playoff victory in Brett Myers’ first season at the helm. Hamburg got its second win in the District 3 tournament in school history. Schuylkill Valley made its seventh appearance in the District 3 playoffs. The Panthers defeated the Hawks in the 48th edition of the Frost Bowl.

“The Great 8”

1. Wyomissing (13-1)

2. Exeter (12-1)

4. Twin Valley (7-5)

5. Berks Catholic (5-6)

6. Gov. Mifflin (3-7)

  1. As I’ve said before, I disagree with your rankings- Actually at the end of the season I would rank Wilson as top team in berks. Yes 8-3 Wilson. They came close to knocking off State 6A finalist Harrisburg. Could you see Wyo or Exeter giving THAT team much of a battle?
