Here are my Berks County high school football rankings. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow! Berks County squads went (8-7) last week. There was one all-Berks matchup. Daniel Boone ended its season with a 35-8 victory at Fleetwood. Congratulations to Wyomissing and Exeter for winning their respective Section championships in the new-look Lancaster-Lebanon League. The Spartans completed their 11th undefeated regular season by shutting out Lampeter-Strasburg 21-0. The Eagles rallied from a ten point deficit to top Manheim Central 21-17. Wilson knocked off Manheim Township 27-21. The Bulldogs’ streak of consecutive winning seasons now stands at 47. The top three schools in my poll didn’t change. Berks Catholic and Twin Valley each moved up one spot. The Saints will host Pine Grove this Thursday at 7pm in the Eastern Conference 3A Final. Schuylkill Valley travels to West Perry in the District 3-3A quarterfinals on Friday. Hamburg is also in the Class 3A field. The Hawks are home against Upper Dauphin this Friday. Wilson, Exeter, Twin Valley, and Wyomissing have the week off.
“The Great 8”
1. Wyomissing (10-0)
2. Exeter (10-0)
3. Wilson (8-2)
4. Berks Catholic (4-6)
5. Twin Valley (6-4)
6. Gov. Mifflin (3-7)
7. Schuylkill Valley (6-4)
8. Hamburg (8-2)
What justification exists for ranking Wyo #1? I believe Exeter would handle them easily. Wyo doesn’t get tested during the regular season now. Even though they have a 64 man roster, they’re allowed to play schools with rosters half their size. If Wyo would play and beat- a good 5A or 6A team, then you could make a case for them.
Wyomissing has 45 players on its roster, not 64. Wyomissing beat Cocalico, a 5A school this year, 38-7. Wyomissing also beat L-S, a very good 4A program, 21-0 on Saturday.
