Here are my final high school baseball rankings for the Berks League in 2022. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow! I hope you enjoyed getting to know many of the top players and coaches through the interviews on my website.
After finishing (14-11) last year, Muhlenberg captured the BCIAA championship for the 13th time in school history. Longtime head coach Brian Kopetsky was voted Coach of the Year in Berks County. The top-seeded Muhls suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Gettysburg in ten innings in the first round of the District 3-5A playoffs. Gov. Mifflin opened the season with 19 straight victories. UConn commit Tyler Minick was named Player of the Year in Berks County. The Mustangs only had two seniors in their starting lineup and will be my preseason favorite in 2023. Exeter qualified for the state playoffs for the first time since 2008. The Eagles will need to replace eleven seniors. Deven Sheerin and Alex Kelsey will return. They were recently selected for the Big 26 Classic. Oley Valley dropped four of its first six games, but the Lynx got hot late behind the pitching of Luke Macdonald. They upset Gov. Mifflin and Wilson to reach the BCIAA Final for the first time since 2013. The Bulldogs lost eight games by two runs or less. It will be difficult to replace P/1B Rueben Livingston who carried Wilson on the mound and at the plate. The future is bright in Elverson. Twin Valley didn’t start a single senior in its District 3-5A opener at Exeter. Kannon Zdimal proved to be one of the top pitchers in the the county. Fleetwood was one of just two teams from the Berks League to advance to the PIAA playoffs. The Tigers defeated #1 seed West Perry and #3 seed Susquehanna Township in the District 3-4A tournament. Hamburg won the Division 3 title in a hotly contested race. The Hawks outlasted Oley Valley, Berks Catholic, and Wyomissing. Kutztown deserves honorable mention after claiming the Division 4 crown. The Cougars were one win away from going to the state playoffs. They fell to top-seeded Camp Hill 2-1 in nine innings in the District 3-2A semifinals.
