Wilson has a long list of successful quarterbacks. Kerry Collins, Chad Henne, Chris Adams, Shane Stafford, Tony Cipolla, and Zach Zweizig are part of that outstanding tradition. Nick Crocona was a backup QB for the Bulldogs as a junior. With some young quarterbacks in the mix and his senior year on the horizon, Crocona decided to meet with head coach Doug Dahms about his future. The 5’11, 185-pound multi-sport athlete opted to put aside his aspirations of being Wilson’s quarterback in 2022. Crocona wanted to make sure that he was on the field and doing what was best for the team. That meant focusing on defense. It also meant a position change for Crocona. He switched from defensive back to outside linebacker. “I really wanted to play my senior year so I was going to do whatever it takes in the weight room,” said Crocona. He thanked fellow linebackers Ryan McMillan and Landon Farrell for helping him learn the position. Crocona picked things up very quickly which isn’t a surprise considering he has a 3.8 GPA. He led the Bulldogs in tackles this season with 58. Crocona was second on the team with 9 TFL. He also broke up four passes. It’s safe to say that the position change worked out well. Wilson allowed just 16 points and 224 yards per game. The (8-3, 5-1) Bulldogs finished second to Hempfield in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. They qualified for the District 3 playoffs for the 30th time in school history. Wilson’s season ended with a 32-21 loss at third-seeded Harrisburg in the Class 6A quarterfinals. The Bulldogs completed their 47th consecutive winning season, a state record. “It’s a blessing to be a part of the program and to keep the streak going,” stated Crocona. Wilson has 593 victories over 78 seasons. The Bulldogs have claimed seven District 3 championships. Cam Jones wrapped up a spectacular career with 999 rushing yards and 20 TD. The Holy Cross commit was dazzling on special teams. He scored on five of his six punt returns! The 5’11, 185-pound RB/WR/CB had twelve kick return touchdowns in the last two years. “I think something that goes under the radar with him is he’s a great leader. He’s a great teammate. He’s a great player all around,” noted Crocona. Jones was named to the Class 6A all-state team a season ago. He and Crocona are now preparing for basketball season. Crocona also plays baseball for the Bulldogs. We talked about his favorite players in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. We also discussed his favorite teachers at Wilson. Crocona revealed the next Netflix show that he’ll be binge watching. As you can probably tell, however, he doesn’t have a whole lot of free time.
