Wilson and Muhlenberg hadn’t met on the football field in 18 years. The (2-1) Bulldogs got off to a fast start in Laureldale and left with a 42-6 victory. Wilson’s defensive line was dominant and helped to give the offense tremendous field position. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on their first three possessions. They led 21-0 with 1:40 left in the first quarter. Those three drives only totaled 91 yards. After committing six turnovers in a 35-23 loss at Central Bucks West last week, Wilson had 17 penalties for 132 yards on Friday night. “We’re definitely gonna get ripped at practice about it. I think we handled business, but it wasn’t pretty,” said Monty Greer.

After Louisville commit Justice Hardy suffered an injury in the first quarter against C.B. West, Greer has seen his workload increase. The speedy 6’, 180-pound senior ran for 123 yards and 2 TD on 16 carries. Greer added three catches for 33 yards and another score. His 3-yard touchdown run made it 14-0 with 7:06 remaining in the opening quarter. That followed a 9-yard touchdown pass from Cole Peterson to Jackson Becker in the left corner of the end zone. “I love Jackson. He knows all the plays. He’s really smart, that’s why he gets open a lot,” explained Greer. Becker provided four receptions for 37 yards. The 5’9, 142-pound senior also had some nifty punt returns.

The Bulldogs have plenty of talent at the skill positions, including two-time All-State tight end Mike Glover. The 6’3, 230-pound senior finished with a team-high seven catches for 77 yards. Glover, who’s headed to James Madison, isn’t Wilson’s only weapon at tight end. Braydon Farrell reeled in a 22-yard touchdown pass over the middle to give the Bulldogs a 21-0 edge in the first period. The 6’2, 215-pound junior hauled in a 20-yard touchdown toss with 4:15 to go in the third quarter. That grab over the middle extended Wilson’s margin to 28-0. “He brings a lot to this team. He’s a really good tight end,” noted Greer. Farrell also had two tackles for loss at outside linebacker.

Greer took a toss to the left and sprinted 15 yards for a score with three minutes left in the third quarter. He caught a 10-yard TD pass out of the backfield with 9:09 remaining to make it 42-6. Peterson, a first-year starter, went 20-of-25 for 221 yards and 4 TD. “I think he’s coming along well. He’s getting used to it. He’s gonna do really well this season,” said Greer. The Bulldogs outgained Muhlenberg 380-to-104. Wilson had a 23-to-4 advantage in first downs.

Defensive tackle Damoni Daglis made his first appearance for the Bulldogs after transferring from Berks Catholic. The 6’1, 285-pound senior made an instant impact with a pair of sacks. Glover, Travis Bissoon, and KJ Davis also wreaked havoc along the defensive line. Senior inside linebacker EJ Brownback ended up with a team-high five tackles. The (1-2) Muhls didn’t pick up a first down until there was one minute to play in the first half.

Jayden Faulkner provided a highlight for Muhlenberg with four minutes left in the third quarter. The junior wide receiver took a short pass along the left sideline, broke a tackle, cut across the entire field, and went 67 yards for a touchdown. That score pulled the Muhls within 28-6. Junior quarterback Adriel Baez was under constant pressure. He was 9-of-15 for 125 yards and a touchdown. Baez was sacked four times as Muhlenberg finished with (-21) rushing yards.

Wilson holds a (21-17-1) edge in the series. The Bulldogs and Muhls last squared off in 2008. Wilson cruised to a 46-0 win in that District 3-4A quarterfinal. The Bulldogs host Manheim Township next Friday in a pivotal Section 1 battle in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. “The sky is the limit for us. We could be so much better. We just gotta clean up all these mistakes,” emphasized Greer.
