Madison Langdon-Berks Catholic

Madison Langdon was the smallest player on the court at Lloyd Wolf Gymnasium on Thursday night. She was also one of the best players. The 5’1 freshman scored 12 points and hit a big 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Saints a two point lead with six minutes remaining. Berks Catholic held on for a 50-45 victory over the (11-7, 6-3) Mustangs. These two schools have combined to win the last seven Berks County championships. Aaliyah Dabney’s steal and layup before the buzzer iced it for the (16-3, 9-0) Saints. Dabney finished with six points and a team-high nine rebounds. The 5’7 senior also played excellent defense. Langdon talked about how valuable Dabney is to the team. Berks Catholic has a trio of talented freshmen including Sydney Corado and Molly McFadden. Langdon said the seniors are extremely supportive and they have a strong bond. Corado chipped in with seven points off the bench. Her jumper put Berks Catholic in front 43-40 with three minutes to go. Caroline Reedy and Mackenzie Gordos knocked down four consecutive free throws to make it 47-40 with 45 seconds left. The two seniors combined for 22 points. Reedy, an all-county selection, had a game-high 13. Langdon was in the starting lineup with Caraline Herb out due to an illness. Herb came into tonight with 34 theee-pointers, the most in the county. She averages 11.5 points. I asked Langdon what it means to beat a quality opponent without Herb. The Saints led 15-7 early, but trailed 23-21 at halftime and 34-33 after the third quarter. Gov. Mifflin made just three 3-pointers. The Mustangs have connected on 84 treys this season. That’s the most in the Berks League by a wide margin. Anyah Ortiz scored eight of her 13 points in the second quarter. The 5’4 junior picked up her fourth foul with 4:20 left and sat for one minute and 45 seconds. Shakyla Mayo provided ten points and promising sophomore Taylor Koenig had nine. Gov. Mifflin went 12-14 from the free throw line, while the Saints were 11-16. Berks Catholic drilled seven triples. Langdon splashed two of them. She poured in a season-high 15 points when the Saints rolled over the Mustangs 65-48 last month. We talked about what she likes to do for fun. Langdon also discussed her favorite classes and teachers.
