Jaxon Geddio-Berks Catholic

Sometimes it only takes a glance for a quarterback and wide receiver to be on the same page. “It was just amazing. I knew right away when the play was called, it was coming to me,” recalled Jaxon Geddio. After a quick look at William Hess, Geddio reeled in a 42-yard touchdown pass to give Berks Catholic a 24-0 lead in the third quarter at Octorara. The Saints went on to win 38-7 last Friday. Geddio and Hess developed a strong relationship while spending last season on the JV team. “We had a lot of chemistry there…I trust Will so much to get me the ball,” emphasized Geddio. The 6’1, 155-pound senior had two catches for 92 yards in the rout of the Braves. Berks Catholic piled up 375 yards including 164 through the air. The latter number may be surprising to some. Rick Keeley’s teams have always relied on a ground attack. Keeley has been running the Wing-T for 37 years as a head coach. He’s won 273 games and five District 3 championships. I asked Geddio what it’s like being a receiver in a run-heavy offense. He replied, “It’s still fun. I get to hit people [while] blocking, but when that pass play gets called it’s a different type of happy.” Hess was happy too. The 5’6, 155-pound junior had just 398 passing yards after seven contests. Hess went 6-of-9 with two touchdowns and no interceptions against Octorara. He’s completing 63% of his passes in his first season as the starter. Geddio has six receptions for 168 yards. He’s also made 24 tackles at safety. Geddio plays basketball for the Saints. He joined the track and field team for the first time last year and finished fifth in the high jump at the District 3-2A championships. Geddio has a hard time picking his favorite sport. He would like to continue his track and field career at the college level. Right now, however, he’s focused on the gridiron and trying to qualify for the District 3 playoffs. Berks Catholic is #7 in the District 3-3A power rankings. Only the top six squads will be in the District 3 tournament in that classification. Upper Dauphin currently holds the #6 spot. The (3-5, 3-2) Saints host (4-4, 3-2) Cocalico this Friday in a key Section 4 matchup. “This is probably the biggest game we have. We need this one. We need this one bad to get in there,” said Geddio. His favorite NFL receivers are Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. Geddio is an Eagles’ fan and thinks they can get to the Super Bowl this season. His favorite rapper is Lil Baby. Geddio hopes Berks Catholic’s football season isn’t over “In a Minute.”
