Ethan Brower-Wyomissing

Wyomissing has one of the top track and field programs in District 3. Ethan Brower is a sprinter for the Spartans. The 6’, 180-pound senior showed off his speed with a 67-yard punt return touchdown in Wyomissing’s 35-7 victory over Berks Catholic. “I saw it was a line drive punt so I knew I’d be able to return it. I made the first guy miss and I saw a bunch of blue [jerseys] to my left. I made a cutback and there was great blocking,” explained Brower. The starting wide receiver and safety noted that the Spartans spend 15 minutes of every practice on special teams. His return put them on top 21-7 with 1:11 left in the second quarter. On the next play, freshman cornerback Justice Hardy returned an interception 23 yards for another score. In a matter of eleven seconds, Wyomissing took control of the “Backyard Brawl.” Hardy’s 31-yard touchdown catch down the left sideline made it 35-7 with 1:55 remaining in the third period. He had a 5-yard TD run in the first quarter. “He can be amazing. The way he’s learned and adapted to high school football as a freshman is remarkable to me. You would think he’s like a junior or senior out there. He’s a great athlete,” replied Brower. The (4-0) Spartans started their 13th meeting with the (1-3) Saints with a bang. Drew Forrey raced 57-yards down the right sideline for a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage. Berks Catholic fullback Devin Garcia capped a 65-yard drive with a 3-yard score early in the second quarter. The 205-pound senior finished with 60 yards on 14 carries. The Saints were outgained 263-167. Sophomore fullback Chase Eisenhower rumbled for 70 yards on eight touches for Wyomissing. Logan Hyde completed all three of his attempts for 40 yards. The Spartans have won 39 consecutive regular season games and they’re getting stronger. All-State linebacker Ryker Jones made his 2023 debut after suffering a knee injury at the end of last season. The 190-pound senior is committed to Princeton. Wyomissing leads the all-time series with Berks Catholic (7-6). “It means everything. This is what we love to do the most, play B.C. and beat them…I have great friends at B.C., but when it’s game time we’re enemies,” said Brower.
