Eric Nangle was a workhorse in the Eagles’ 33-21 win at Berks Catholic. The 5’10, 175-pound senior ran 27 times for 131 yards and a TD. Exeter finished with 177 rushing yards. The Eagles scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives after trailing 21-14 in the third quarter. Nangle said they learned from last week’s loss to undefeated Gov. Mifflin. He gave credit to 220-pound FB Ty Yocum and the big guys up front. Nangle added that 6’6 junior Joey Schlaffer is going to be a beast. Schlaffer, who has several Division I offers, caught a 27-yard TD pass from Colin Payne to give Exeter a 26-21 lead with nine minutes remaining. Nangle knows that there’s still room for improvement, and the Eagles need to get out to faster starts. When I asked Nangle what it would mean to qualify for the District 3 playoffs, he replied “everything.”
