Drew Forrey-Wyomissing

Matthew Kramer, Charlie McIntyre, and Drew Eisenhower combined for more than 3,100 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns a season ago. The (13-1) Spartans won their fourth consecutive District 3 championship and reached the state semifinals. All three running backs graduated which means more opportunities for Drew Forrey. The 6’4, 210-pound senior put on twenty pounds in the offseason. He had a 59-yard TD catch and a 3-yard TD run in last week’s 41-7 rout at Pottsville. Wyomissing dismantled Kennard-Dale 56-7 in its opener. Despite the lopsided scores, Forrey knows there’s more work to be done. “We’re obviously happy with (2-0), but I think there’s still a lot the team can do to get better,” he acknowledged. The Spartans cruised past Trinity 35-14 last year. They expect a much tougher challenge in their Week 3 matchup with the Shamrocks. Trinity is ranked #3 in Class 2A by PennLive. Wyomissing comes in at #2 in 3A. Sophomore Messiah Mickens already has 419 yards on the ground for Trinity. The Penn State commit is averaging 14.4 yards per carry with six touchdowns. “He’s definitely pretty good. We’re trying to get prepared for him, but also the rest of the team. We’re not taking them lightly,” stated Forrey. The Spartans are riding a 37-game regular season winning streak. They have a Penn State commit of their own in 6’5, 290-pound T/NG Caleb Brewer. Ryker Jones, who’s headed to Princeton, was cleared for full contact at practice on Wednesday. However, the All-State linebacker isn’t expected to play until next week. Jones suffered a knee injury at the end of last season. Wyomissing has plenty of depth in the backfield with Chase Eisenhower, Collin Niedrowski, Derek Macrina, Marvin Armistead, and promising freshman Justice Hardy. Forrey, who also plays linebacker, is on the basketball and track & field teams. He averaged eight points as a junior on the court. “It gets you in a competitive mindset for all realms of sports,” said Forrey. He also excels in the classroom. Forrey carries a lofty 5.1 GPA. Forrey replied, “My parents have really pushed me, especially when I was younger, to try to keep straight A’s.” The Spartans hope to receive high marks on the gridiron once again this fall.
