It wasn’t easy, but the Saints are marching on to the District 3-4A semifinals. They knocked off #5 seed Cocalico 21-7 at the Forino Sports Complex. JayJay Jordan had two long TD runs in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter. Christian Cacchione provided Berks Catholic’s other score on a 36-yard run late in the second quarter. That touchdown came after an incredible interception by senior defensive end Tyler Givens. Cacchione told me that play was a game changer. He also said that Givens has some of the best hands on the team. Cacchione added that playing at home was a big advantage for the (7-4) Saints. The senior HB/FS ran for 78 yards on 15 carries. He has over 1,100 rushing yards this season. Cacchione gave credit to the offensive line. He stressed that facing a difficult schedule in the regular season, including unbeaten Gov. Mifflin, really helped the Saints vs. Cocalico. Berks Catholic will travel to #1 seed Bishop McDevitt in the semifinals. The Saints are (19-4) all-time in the District 3 playoffs.
