Bryce Detwiler-UConn

A Gov. Mifflin standout baseball player is going to UConn. As Yogi Berra once said, “It’s like deja vu all over again.” Bryce Detwiler is following in the footsteps of his former teammate Tyler Minick and heading to Storrs, Connecticut. Detwiler announced his commitment to the Huskies on Friday.

The 6’1 rising junior had an outstanding season this spring for the Mustangs. Detwiler was the only sophomore selected to the All-Berks team. Minick, who also committed to UConn early in his high school career, was named the Berks County Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Detwiler hit .403 with a staggering 1.212 OPS and five home runs. He racked up 13 extra-base hits, 31 runs, 18 RBI, and a dozen stolen bases in 23 games. Although his bat attracted college coaches the most, the righty went (7-1) on the mound with a 2.55 ERA.

Gov. Mifflin beat rival Wilson 6-3 at FirstEnergy Stadium for the BCIAA Championship. The Mustangs claimed their 15th county title and second in the past three years. They entered the District 3-5A playoffs as the #2 seed, but were upset by #15 seed Exeter 4-1 in Shillington in the opening round. Gov. Mifflin ended its campaign at (18-5). Detwiler played in the Big 26 Classic this summer in Harrisburg.
