Bob Wolfrum-Wyomissing

Wyomissing is certainly no stranger to the postseason. The Spartans are making their 28th appearance in the District 3 playoffs. They have won nine championships, more than any other Berks County school. On Saturday afternoon, it was business as usual for the #2 ranked team in the state in Class 3A. Wyomissing cruised past #8 seed Northern Lebanon 65-3 in the quarterfinals. It was 38-0 with 1:39 remaining in the first quarter and 58-0 at halftime as the Spartans improved to (11-0). Drew Eisenhower caught a 48-yard TD pass from Ben Zechman and returned an interception 26 yards for a score in the first eight minutes of the game. Nevin Carter added a 77-yard Pick 6 in the first quarter. Longtime head coach Bob Wolfrum mentioned that it’s not the first time that one of his teams has taken two interceptions back for touchdowns. Wolfrum said Carter is a reliable cornerback. The 6’4, 190-pound senior is a three-year starter. Wyomissing ran for 302 yards in the first half! Tommy Grabowski and Amory Thompson each had 2TD. Wolfrum talked about the improvement of the offensive line and the future of that group which features 6’4, 310-pound junior Jven Williams. We also discussed sophomore fullback Collin Niedrowski who ran for 93 yards and a score on seven carries. I asked Wolfrum how much can he really learn from a blowout. The Spartans are (36-18) all-time in the District 3 playoffs. They’ll battle a familiar foe in #5 seed Middletown next Saturday. Wolfrum knows that Tajae Broadie is tough to stop. The 6’3, 240-pound FB/DE has over 15 Division I offers including Cincinnati, WVU, Va Tech, Minnesota, and Syracuse. Broadie rumbled for a career-high 174 yards and 3TD in the quarterfinals at West Perry. Wyomissing eliminated the Blue Raiders 38-16 in the championship game last season. Wolfrum is (333-85-1) over 35 years with the Spartans.
