“Roberts Rankings”-Football

We’re already halfway through the high school football regular season. The top seven teams in my poll all won last week so there’s only one change in the new rankings. Berks Catholic is replaced by Fleetwood at the #8 spot. The (1-4) Saints fell at home to Schuylkill Valley 18-16, while the Tigers knocked off Manheim Central 14-6. Berks Catholic hits the road this Thursday to face Annville-Cleona. Yama Navarro and Devon Englehart are both averaging nearly 8 yards per carry for the (3-2) Dutchmen. Navarro has a team-high 799 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Englehart has added 560 rushing yards and nine scores.

Wilson is (53-4-1) all-time versus Cedar Crest. The Bulldogs and (4-1) Falcons meet on Friday in West Lawn. Wilson has won 23 straight in this series. Cedar Crest tries to bounce back from a 45-12 defeat at the hands of Manheim Township.

Twin Valley has only allowed 33 points all year. The unbeaten Raiders battle Fleetwood this Friday in Elverson. Exeter travels to Elizabethtown. The (4-1) Bears went (5-5) a season ago under head coach Tom Gallagher. He brought back nine starters on defense and eight on offense. Prince Wratto has 754 rushing yards and 10 TD. The junior running back is averaging 11.8 yards per carry.

After dropping its first two contests, Wyomissing has put up 92 points in the past two weeks. The Spartans visit Donegal on Friday. The Indians have lost two in a row following a (3-0) start under new coach John Manion.

Conrad Weiser heads to Northern Lebanon this week. Brady Ryan ran for 154 yards on 32 carries last Friday against Donegal. He reached the end zone three times, giving him 15 TD this year. Ryan has piled up 884 yards on the ground for the (4-1) Vikings.

Ephrata hosts Muhlenberg on Friday. The (4-1) Mounts opened a lot of eyes by beating Conestoga Valley 25-23 last week. Ephrata pulled out the win without quarterback Carson Martin who was injured at Exeter in Week 4. The Muhls blew out Lebanon 64-8 on Friday in Laureldale. The Cedars’ losing streak stands at 57 consecutive games, a new PIAA record.

Schuylkill Valley puts its four-game winning streak on the line this week at Pequea Valley. The (4-1) Braves got hammered 36-7 at Hamburg last Friday.
