The regular season is behind us. It’s time to move on to the postseason. From here on out, it’s win or go home. There’s no consolation bracket when it comes to the gridiron. The District 3 football playoffs begin tonight. Exeter, Muhlenberg, and Schuylkill Valley are in action. Wilson, Twin Valley, Wyomissing, and Berks Catholic have byes this week. Here’s a look at the history of these Berks County teams in the District 3 tournament.
Class 6A:
Wilson is making its 33rd appearance in the District 3 playoffs. Only Manheim Central has made more trips to the tournament. The Barons have been there 35 times, although they haven’t qualified for the second year in a row. The Bulldogs are (44-25) overall in District’s with seven championships. Their last title came in 2016.
Gov. Mifflin is playing in the Eastern Conference 5A/6A Championship this evening at Pocono Mountain West. The Mustangs have been in the District 3 bracket 18 times. They have a record of (24-17). Gov. Mifflin’s lone title was in 2020 with Penn State running back Nick Singleton.
Class 5A:
Exeter is making its 16th appearance in the District 3 field. The Eagles are (13-14) overall. They’ve reached the championship game in three of the past four seasons. Exeter claimed its first crown in 2021.
Muhlenberg has reached the District 3 playoffs for the first time since 2013. This is the Muhls’ 12th appearance. They have an all-time mark of (6-11).
Class 4A:
Twin Valley finds itself in the District 3 bracket for the fifth consecutive year. The Raiders have been to the semifinals in each of the last three seasons. They’ve (3-4) overall.
Wyomissing is no stranger to the postseason. The Spartans are making their 32nd appearance in the District 3 tournament. They’re (44-19) with a dozen titles, including five straight from 2019-2023. Lampeter-Strasburg ended Wyomissing’s run last fall with a 30-27 overtime victory in the District 3-4A Final. Those teams meet again next Saturday at 1pm at Bob Wolfrum Field.
Class 3A:
Berks Catholic has qualified for District’s eleven times in the past fifteen years. The Saints have an outstanding winning percentage at (20-6) with four championships. They last brought home a trophy in 2017.
Schuylkill Valley has advanced to the District 3 playoffs for the tenth time. The Panthers are (3-9) overall. They fell at Trinity 20-17 in overtime a season ago in the semifinals. Schuylkill Valley gets another shot at the Shamrocks tonight in the quarterfinal round.
