“Roberts Rankings”-Football

Six of the top eight teams in my poll won last week. The only squads that came up short, Wilson and Reading, had very tough opponents in Nazareth and Emmaus respectively. The Bulldogs reached the 1-yard line with one minute to go before fumbling in a 35-31 heartbreaker. The Bulldogs’ offense came to life with 434 yards and 27 first downs.

The big matchup this Friday is in Shillington. Gov. Mifflin has won 15 of the last 19 encounters with Exeter. However, the Eagles took the two most recent meetings by a combined score of 67-16. Jayden Zandier has 367 yards and 6 TD on only 19 carries. Grady Garner has scored ten combined touchdowns in just three games for the Mustangs. Wilson squares off with Reading at Shirk Stadium. The Bulldogs haven’t lost to the Red Knights since 2003.

Twin Valley has already put up 151 points. The Raiders face ELCO in Elverson on Friday. ELCO earned its first victory last week at Lancaster Catholic. Wyomissing returns home to play Northern Lebanon this Saturday afternoon. The Vikings come in at (1-2). Unbeaten Conrad Weiser travels to Fleetwood this Friday. The (2-1) Tigers took care of Schuylkill Valley 22-10 last week. Muhlenberg is scheduled to host Lebanon on Friday. The Muhls had to move last week’s game due to an issue with their new turf field. They will know by Wednesday at the latest if the problem has been fixed. The Cedars have dropped 35 consecutive games.

There are no changes this week in my Berks County high school football rankings. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!
