Lucas Myers-Twin Valley

After suffering a 52-33 loss at Ephrata last week, Twin Valley had plenty of motivation heading into Friday’s matchup with Daniel Boone. The (8-1) Raiders racked up 433 rushing yards in a 54-7 rout of the (1-8) Blazers. “We bounced back really well and our week at practice was better than a lot of our other weeks,” said Lucas Myers. The 6’, 190-pound freshman ran for 102 yards and four touchdowns on six carries. His 71-yard score made it 34-0 with 6:46 remaining in the second quarter. All of his touchdowns came in the first half. “Our offensive line did really well making great holes…barely anybody was touching me at all and it was easy from there,” noted Myers. He had just eight carries in the previous eight games. That’s understandable when you’re on the same team as Evan Johnson and Drew Engle. They’re both over 1,000 yards on the ground this season, while averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Johnson and Engle each got two touches versus a short-handed Daniel Boone squad. Engle’s 35-yard TD run put Twin Valley in front 20-0. On their next possession, Johnson raced 44 yards to the end zone. It was 27-0 with 27 seconds left in the opening period. The Blazers trailed 47-0 at the break. They were limited to five yards in the first half. It’s been a tough first season for head coach J.D. Okuniewski. The Daniel Boone graduate was without seven two-way starters on Friday due to an assortment of injuries. Captains Ethan Kryman, Haydn Moyer, and Jordan Meyer (6’4, 275) were not in uniform. Senior RB/LB Jake Myers was injured back in the preseason. Freddy Lacey got the Blazers on the board with a 1-yard TD run with 40 seconds to go. The 6’2 sophomore finished with 52 yards on 20 carries. Raiders’ junior quarterback Evan Myers did most of his damage on the ground on a rainy night in Elverson. Myers ran for 171 yards and a score on eight carries. He went 9-of-14 for 50 yards through the air. Lucas Myers enjoys playing with his older brother. “It’s awesome talking to him on the field, seeing what he sees,” replied Lucas. Twin Valley clinched at least a share of the Section 3 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. The Raiders have a (5-1) league mark. Ephrata and Garden Spot sit at (4-1). Twin Valley wraps up the regular season at home against Hatboro-Horsham.
