“Roberts Rankings”-Football

Here are my Berks County high school football rankings. It’s hard to believe, but we’re already past the halfway point of the regular season. Seven of the top eight teams in my poll won last week so there aren’t any changes. Gov. Mifflin came up short, but the Mustangs battled Wilson for four quarters at John Gurski Stadium. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow!

Wyomissing puts its 41-game regular season winning streak on the line at Cocalico on Friday. The Spartans defeated the Eagles 38-7 a season ago, but this should be a much tougher challenge. Cocalico has won five in a row. Both squads want to keep the rock on the ground. Wilson visits defending Section 1 champion Hempfield this week. After going (9-3) last year, the Black Knights are (2-4) and coming off a 23-19 loss to Penn Manor. Exeter will be in Laureldale to face the (1-5) Muhls. While the Eagles are unbeaten, they’re currently the #5 seed in the District 3-5A power rankings. Twin Valley is second in the District 3-4A standings. The Raiders survived a scare at (1-5) Solanco last week. They square off with (6-0) Garden Spot this Friday in Elverson. Drew Engle and Evan Johnson are both averaging over 10 yards per carry for Twin Valley.

After getting tripped up in West Lawn 21-14, the Mustangs return to Shillington. They await (5-1) Conestoga Valley. Berks Catholic rallied from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to top Conrad Weiser 30-26. The Saints are back home this Friday. They meet (5-1) Lampeter-Strasburg. The Pioneers’ lone loss came two weeks ago against Cocalico. Schuylkill Valley is riding a 5-game winning streak. The Panthers try to get their offense back on track at (1-5) Columbia this Friday. Fleetwood plays on Saturday for the second consecutive week. The Tigers host (5-1) Ephrata at 7pm. The Mounts suffered their first loss last Friday at Garden Spot.
