Teddy Snyder-Exeter

Teddy Snyder had just seven points in the Eagles’ first two games. His dad, as well as the coaching staff, kept encouraging him to shoot and it paid off against Manheim Township. Snyder made four 3-pointers in a 59-46 win on Tuesday in Reiffton. His father, Ted, knows a little bit about scoring. He had 1,270 points in his high school career at Kutztown. Snyder previously served as the Cougars’ head coach. He also coached Exeter’s girls basketball team. His son hit two 3’s in the first quarter and two more in the final period. The Eagles were up 28-19 at halftime and 42-27 after the third quarter. The lead expanded to 16 when Snyder drilled a triple after a timeout with about six minutes remaining. The (1-2) Blue Streaks never made a serious run at Exeter. Colin Payne poured in 15 points. Snyder and Kevin Saenz had 12 apiece. Anthony Caccese added eight points. The Eagles made nine 3-pointers and went 10-11 from the free throw line. They also got terrific defense from 6’6 junior Joey Schlaffer on Seth Miller. The Manheim Township senior guard was limited to five points in the second half and 14 overall. Snyder talked about the difference from last season to now for the (3-0) Eagles. They’re coming off a (3-14) campaign. Snyder told me that head coach Matt Ashcroft is stressing defense. We also discussed the addition of Saenz who transferred from Wilson. The 6’3 sophomore is averaging ten points off the bench. He jammed seven points into the second quarter against the Blue Streaks. Snyder is confident in their team, but realizes that life in Section 1 of the Berks Conference isn’t easy. Exeter is on the road on Friday vs. Reading, the defending Class 6A state champion.
