Ja-mhi Jackson made the journey from Yonkers, N.Y. to Wyomissing before the season. On Saturday, he’ll make another trip. This time J.J. is headed to Hershey for the Class 3A state championship. Jackson has been an important addition to the (15-0) Spartans. He starts at defensive tackle and gets some time at fullback. You don’t see many 6’3, 240-pound high school players running with the football. You will see tacklers bouncing off of Jackson which is one reason why he has become a fan favorite. Jackson is loving his time at Wyomissing. “Everybody treats me like family,” he said. Jackson has learned that if you want to get on the field for the Spartans, you must work extremely hard. Jackson admitted that he prefers playing defense, however, he had 32 yards and a touchdown on five carries in the state semifinals. He’s averaging nearly six yards per carry this season with 5TD. Jackson told me that he wasn’t satisfied after the 42-6 rout of Neumann-Goretti last week. He understands what is on the line this weekend. Jackson acknowledged that Central Valley is a physical squad with great athletes. The Warriors are (14-0). They beat Wyomissing 35-21 in last year’s state final. Jackson and I also discussed what it’s like going up against Jven Williams at practice. Williams is a 6’4, 310-pound OL with several Division I offers including Penn State. Plus, find out what Jackson likes to do for fun.
