The Spartans have had some small offensive lines over the years, but this isn’t one of them. The 2021 Wyomissing OL averages nearly 240 pounds and includes 6’4, 310-pound junior Jven Williams. Penn State, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are just a few of the colleges that have already offered a scholarship to Williams. Playing alongside him is junior guard Pacen Ziegler. At 6’3 and 255 pounds, Ziegler is also easy to spot. The guys up front are a big reason why the (14-0) Spartans are averaging 308 rushing yards per game and 7.7 yards per carry. Ziegler told me he loves the Wing-T offense. Wyomissing is running the ball 40 times a game which explains why Ziegler is happy. He said Bob Wolfrum and the coaching staff prepare them extremely well for each opponent. Wolfrum has 336 wins over 35 seasons with the Spartans. Ziegler knows that District 12 champion Neumann-Goretti presents a much different challenge than Scranton Prep did last week in the Class 3A state quarterfinals. The (12-1) Saints have plenty of speed at the skill positions. They outgained Danville 380-111 in a 28-0 quarterfinal victory. Neumann-Goretti is #4 in PennLive’s state rankings. Wyomissing is #2 in Class 3A. They square off at Pennridge High School on Friday night. You’ll find out who Ziegler doesn’t like going up against at practice. He revealed who the biggest eaters are on the team, and told a funny story about a trip to Popeyes. Ziegler mentioned that 240-pound defensive tackle J.J. Jackson has been a great addition for the Spartans. They’re allowing just under nine points per game. Plus, Ziegler talked about his favorite teachers at Wyomissing.
