Carson Schmidt-Exeter

The Eagles have an explosive offense with weapons all over the field including Joey Schlaffer, Ty Yocum, J.R. Strauss, Eric Nangle, and Colin Payne. Carson Schmidt reminded the fans at Don Thomas Stadium not to forget about him. The 5’10 senior wide receiver had three catches for 41 yards and 2TD in a 38-21 win over #10 South Western. I asked Schmidt about the chemistry between him and Payne. #7 Exeter is averaging 40 points per game. Schmidt believes the offense can be even better. He called Nangle a “beast.” The 175-pound senior ran for 137 yards and a TD against the Mustangs. Nangle is 18 yards shy of 1,000 this season. Schmidt elaborated on how Schlaffer helps him to get single coverage. Schlaffer, a 6’6 junior who is committed to Penn State, got his fifth TD reception of the season tonight. Schmidt has been good friends with Yocum for a long time. He really enjoys watching the 220-pound fullback run over opposing players. Schmidt also enjoys playing at home in front of the student section. We talked about how the Eagles’ schedule benefits them in the postseason. Exeter faced Central York, Gov. Mifflin, Wilson, and Hempfield in the regular season. The (7-3) Eagles picked up their fifth all-time victory in the District 3 playoffs. They now have to prepare for a road trip to #2 Manheim Central in the Class 5A quarterfinals. The Barons have won a record 18 District 3 championships.
