The Raiders were averaging 52 points per game entering Friday’s PIAA-4A semifinal against Aliquippa. Twin Valley couldn’t muster a single first down in the second half, but the (14-0) Raiders came up with a pivotal defensive stand in the final minute to preserve a thrilling 28-24 victory at Mifflin County High School. Twin Valley took advantage of two key turnovers and a long kickoff return to top the (10-4) Quips. Lucas Myers had three touchdown runs and a late sack to help send the Raiders to the state championship for the first time. They’ll face Southern Lehigh in the PIAA-4A Final on Thursday at 7pm at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field. The (14-1) Spartans defeated Cardinal O’Hara 28-24 in another semifinal nailbiter.

Twin Valley marched 83 yards on the opening series to take a 7-0 advantage over Aliquippa. Myers rumbled 37 yards for the first score of the night. The 6’1, 215-pound junior ended up with 49 yards on nine carries. The standout linebacker also contributed seven unassisted tackles. The Quips answered immediately with a 1-yard touchdown run by JJ Work. The senior broke off a 13-yard run on fourth-and-3 to keep the drive alive. Work went over 1,000 rushing yards for the season during that possession. The Raiders, however, blocked the extra point to maintain a 7-6 edge with 2:41 left in the first quarter. A 80-yard kickoff return by Drew Engle set up Twin Valley at Aliquippa’s 4-yard line. On fourth-and-goal, sophomore quarterback Maverik Foster kept the ball for a 1-yard touchdown with 41 seconds to go in the quarter. The District 3 champs were in front 14-6 after twelve minutes.

Ryan Rementer, a senior linebacker, picked off a pass by Marques Council and returned it 30 yards to the Quips’ 1-yard line with seven and a-half minutes to play before halftime. A 1-yard TD run by Myers made it 21-6. Rementer piled up a team-high eight solo tackles. With 1:04 left in the second quarter, Aliquippa blocked a 23-yard field goal attempt by Nate Shaffer. The Raiders got the ball right back though when Keenan Munn came up with another interception. The junior linebacker returned it to the Quips’ 10-yard line. On fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line, Myers scored as time expired and Twin Valley took a 28-6 lead into the locker room. The Raiders began four series inside Aliquippa’s 20-yard line. Twin Valley was in control despite having less than 100 total yards at the break.

Council, a Yale commit, bounced back in a big way during the third quarter. He launched a deep pass over the middle to Qa’lil Goode for a 48-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed. The five-time state champs then went 66 yards for another score. Council hit Antonio Reddic on a post for a 19-yard TD pass. Council’s throw on the two-point try was incomplete with 4:06 remaining in the quarter. The Raiders, who were on top 28-18, were forced to punt again on their next possession. Akiva Woods capped a 60-yard drive with a 39-yard touchdown run. The PAT was blocked, but the Quips had pulled within 28-24 with 36 seconds to go in the third period. Aliquippa, a program with 801 all-time wins, wasn’t going away quietly.

The 21-time WPIAL champions took over at their 30-yard line with 6:19 to play. On fourth-and-11, Council found Goode for a 25-yard completion. Council then hit Woods for a 20-yard gain with three minutes left. Council and Woods hooked up again for 27 yards with 2:14 remaining. The scrappy Quips had reached Twin Valley’s 11-yard line. Myers put a halt to their momentum by sacking Council with a minute to go back at the 25-yard line. On fourth-and-24 with 35 seconds on the clock, Munn broke up Council’s pass in the end zone to seal the victory.

Engle, who made six solo tackles, ran for 65 yards on 20 carries. The Army lacrosse commit surpassed 4,000 career rushing yards, a school record. The Raiders, ranked #1 in the state in Class 4A by PennLive, were limited to 113 total yards. Foster was 4-of-7 through the air for (-5) yards. Aliquippa’s defense lived up to the hype. The Quips were giving up just 12.8 ppg. coming into Friday’s state semifinal. While Twin Valley struggled offensively, the Raiders found a way to keep their historic season alive. The boys from the valley still have one more hill to climb to reach their ultimate goal.

Drew Engle-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-engle-twin-valley-2/ Fri, 19 Sep 2025 13:23:25 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5124 Special teams play is not an afterthought at Twin Valley. It’s a priority for the undefeated Raiders who are ranked #6 in the state in Class 4A. “We emphasize them a ton at practice. We’re always putting in different things. We work really hard on special teams,” said running back and safety Drew Engle. The third phase of the game was pivotal in a 49-7 rout of Octorara on Thursday night.

Twin Valley led 7-0 early in the second quarter when Dominic Summers blocked a punt which set up the Raiders at the 3-yard line. Engle’s 2-yard run made it 14-0 with eight and a-half minutes remaining in the first half. On the ensuing possession, Twin Valley brought heavy pressure again on fourth down and the Braves weren’t able to get off a punt. Ryan Rementer capped a 33-yard drive with a 13-yard touchdown run on a counter. The Raiders kept momentum in their favor as Keenan Munn recovered an onside kick at Octorara’s 41-yard line. After a penalty, Lucas Myers broke free up the middle for a 46-yard touchdown run and a 28-0 advantage. Munn recovered a fumble on the next series which gave Twin Valley the ball at the Braves’ 31-yard line. Engle took it from there with a dazzling touchdown run. He started up the middle, got bottled up, bounced it to the left, cut back across the entire field, and raced down the right sideline for a 31-yard score. The Army lacrosse commit put the Raiders in front 35-0 with 4:38 left before halftime. “I bounced it outside and saw a couple more guys out there so I went the other way. It just opened up. My O-line does a fantastic job blocking for me and it starts with them,” explained Engle. After using its timeouts, Twin Valley got the ball back with 1:30 to go in the first half. Ben Grundy took a quick pop pass from Maverik Foster and sprinted 62-yards down the left sideline. After a scoreless first quarter, the (5-0, 2-0) Raiders exploded for 42 points in just ten minutes. “I think we were fired up, a little bit mad we didn’t score,” replied Engle.

Myers ripped off a 62-yard touchdown run down the right sideline to extend the lead to 49-0 with 5:18 to play in the third quarter. “He’s one of the hardest workers on the team. It also keeps us fresh. He does give me a little bit of a break which is nice. I love working with him,” noted Engle. Myers finished with 132 yards on only seven carries. The 6’1, 215-pound junior reached the end zone three times. Engle added 82 yards and two scores on ten carries. The 5’11, 185-pound senior was named an All-American by USA Lacrosse earlier this year. Foster was 8-of-10 for 134 yards and a touchdown. Twin Valley piled up 413 total yards including 279 on the ground. The Raiders are averaging 56.6 points per game at the midway point of the regular season.

Octorara got on the scoreboard on the final play of the third quarter thanks to a 47-yard run by Brayden Mastripolitto. The 5’11, 175-pound junior entered the night with 631 rushing yards and 11 TD. The (3-2, 1-1) Braves were without starting quarterback Mason Prokay for the second straight game. Sophomore Gavin Davis was under center again due to Prokay’s injury. Prokay is a standout javelin thrower. The 6’3, 210-pound senior finished 11th at Nike Outdoor Nationals this summer. Twin Valley’s defense was spearheaded by Rementer. The 200-pound senior linebacker had a team-high seven tackles. The Raiders have outscored their opponents 283-46. “We’re just focused about getting better every day, never satisfied and just keep working hard,” said Engle.

Davis Keppley-Conrad Weiser https://berkssportsreport.com/davis-keppley-conrad-weiser/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 16:02:27 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4514 What a difference a year makes. In 2023, Conrad Weiser finished with just two wins. The Scouts head into their final regular season game of 2024 with a perfect (9-0) record. They rallied from a 21-3 deficit to beat Cocalico 24-21 last Friday for the Section 3 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. “It’s the same guys just a year better, more experienced, and we want to play,” said Davis Keppley. The 5’10, 175-pound senior had six catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the thrilling victory at Cocalico. His 11-yard TD grab put Conrad Weiser in front with nine minutes remaining. “I just ran my route and I knew Donovan would give me a good ball,” replied Keppley. Donovan Gingrich was 16-of-28 for 179 yards and 3 TD. The 6’1, 200-pound senior is a three-year starter for the Scouts. “He knows where to put the ball. He’s a great quarterback, runs if he has to. He’s done a great job of that this season,” noted Keppley. Defensive end Ashton Kiebach made a critical tackle on fourth down to stop Cocalico’s final drive. Kiebach is one of twenty seniors on the roster. Conrad Weiser returned six starters on each side of the ball. Keppley has been focusing more on his role at linebacker this year. The touchdown receptions last week were the first of his career. The Scouts are without three of their top skill position players due to injuries. Running backs Javien Rivera and Jonathon McQuillen, as well as wide receiver Evan Rittle, didn’t play against the (6-3) Eagles. Rittle was the WR of the Year in Section 4 a season ago. Alan Moyer’s squad still found a way to get the job done. “The coaching is outstanding. They keep everybody in the loop. We’re always working to keep everybody caught up with what we’re doing,” explained Keppley. Moyer is in his 22nd year at the helm in Robesonia. His 147 wins are a school record. The Scouts shifted Evan Miller, a 220-pound tight end, to running back last week. He rumbled for 97 yards on 13 carries. Conrad Weiser hosts Unionville this Friday. The Scouts haven’t started a season (10-0) since 1996. After going (5-15) over the previous two years, Conrad Weiser is back on the right path.

Ben Grundy-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/ben-grundy-twin-valley/ Fri, 04 Oct 2024 04:02:09 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4470 Twin Valley has rolled over all of its opponents. The Raiders have climbed the statewide polls in Class 4A with one blowout victory after another. That streak of dominance continued on Thursday night with a 49-0 rout of Donegal. The (1-6) Indians opted not to play the second half due to concerns about player safety. They were short-handed coming into Elverson and saw a few more players go down with injuries in the first half. Twin Valley head coach Brett Myers didn’t want to comment on how the game ended. His son, Evan Myers, threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more scores. The 5’10, 185-pound senior was 7-of-12 for 91 yards with an interception. The Raiders’ all-time passing leader used his legs for 112 yards on eight carries. Myers’ scramble down the right sideline set up Evan Johnson’s 1-yard touchdown run midway through the opening quarter. Johnson finished with 73 yards on nine carries. The 165-pound speedster surpassed 3,000 career rushing yards and was named Homecoming King. “It’s a really big moment for him because it’s his senior year. I’m really happy for him,” said Ben Grundy. The 6’1, 180-pound junior also had a big night. Grundy had six catches for 86 yards and 2 TD. “We’re having a lot of fun out here. We’re all enjoying this right now,” replied Grundy. He went in motion and took a quick shovel pass from Myers around the right end for a 7-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. That came after Donegal’s punter fumbled under heavy pressure deep in his own territory. A 1-yard score by sophomore Chase Reilly made it 35-0 with 7:24 remaining in the second quarter. That score followed a nifty 39-yard run by Myers. His 10-yard run up the middle put Twin Valley on top 42-0 with 6:30 to go in the half. Myers, a four-year starter, then hit Grundy down the right seam for a 21-yard touchdown with four minutes to play before the break. Grundy is on the Raiders’ track and field team. “It helps me tremendously, more than you think. It helps a lot,” he emphasized. The 400 meters is his best event. Twin Valley forced four turnovers including three fumbles. Titus Akinrefon came up with an interception when Leelan Baughman attempted a halfback pass. The Indians were held to one first down. Joey Buckley, a 230-pound sophomore defensive end, and junior linebacker Ryan Rementer sacked Brady Reck late in the first quarter. Greyson Miller scooped up the football and rumbled five yards for a touchdown. The 255-pound junior defensive end gave the Raiders a 14-0 advantage. Donegal fumbled on an option play on the ensuing drive which set up Twin Valley at the 12-yard line. Myers cashed in with a 6-yard TD run. The (7-0) Raiders have outscored their opponents 342-40. “My expectations are always high for this team. We have a lot of great guys here, a lot of good guys coming up. I knew this year was gonna be a special one,” stated Grundy. Twin Valley will host 12-time District 3 champion Wyomissing next Friday. The Spartans are (5-1) this season.
