Twin – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Fri, 04 Oct 2024 04:10:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Ben Grundy-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/ben-grundy-twin-valley/ Fri, 04 Oct 2024 04:02:09 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4470 Twin Valley has rolled over all of its opponents. The Raiders have climbed the statewide polls in Class 4A with one blowout victory after another. That streak of dominance continued on Thursday night with a 49-0 rout of Donegal. The (1-6) Indians opted not to play the second half due to concerns about player safety. They were short-handed coming into Elverson and saw a few more players go down with injuries in the first half. Twin Valley head coach Brett Myers didn’t want to comment on how the game ended. His son, Evan Myers, threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more scores. The 5’10, 185-pound senior was 7-of-12 for 91 yards with an interception. The Raiders’ all-time passing leader used his legs for 112 yards on eight carries. Myers’ scramble down the right sideline set up Evan Johnson’s 1-yard touchdown run midway through the opening quarter. Johnson finished with 73 yards on nine carries. The 165-pound speedster surpassed 3,000 career rushing yards and was named Homecoming King. “It’s a really big moment for him because it’s his senior year. I’m really happy for him,” said Ben Grundy. The 6’1, 180-pound junior also had a big night. Grundy had six catches for 86 yards and 2 TD. “We’re having a lot of fun out here. We’re all enjoying this right now,” replied Grundy. He went in motion and took a quick shovel pass from Myers around the right end for a 7-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. That came after Donegal’s punter fumbled under heavy pressure deep in his own territory. A 1-yard score by sophomore Chase Reilly made it 35-0 with 7:24 remaining in the second quarter. That score followed a nifty 39-yard run by Myers. His 10-yard run up the middle put Twin Valley on top 42-0 with 6:30 to go in the half. Myers, a four-year starter, then hit Grundy down the right seam for a 21-yard touchdown with four minutes to play before the break. Grundy is on the Raiders’ track and field team. “It helps me tremendously, more than you think. It helps a lot,” he emphasized. The 400 meters is his best event. Twin Valley forced four turnovers including three fumbles. Titus Akinrefon came up with an interception when Leelan Baughman attempted a halfback pass. The Indians were held to one first down. Joey Buckley, a 230-pound sophomore defensive end, and junior linebacker Ryan Rementer sacked Brady Reck late in the first quarter. Greyson Miller scooped up the football and rumbled five yards for a touchdown. The 255-pound junior defensive end gave the Raiders a 14-0 advantage. Donegal fumbled on an option play on the ensuing drive which set up Twin Valley at the 12-yard line. Myers cashed in with a 6-yard TD run. The (7-0) Raiders have outscored their opponents 342-40. “My expectations are always high for this team. We have a lot of great guys here, a lot of good guys coming up. I knew this year was gonna be a special one,” stated Grundy. Twin Valley will host 12-time District 3 champion Wyomissing next Friday. The Spartans are (5-1) this season.

Evan Myers-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/evan-myers-twin-valley-3/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 12:18:20 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4383 On the first play from scrimmage, Evan Myers rolled to his right and found Matthew Knight over the middle for a 49-yard gain. All of Twin Valley’s offensive weapons were on display in a 42-16 victory at Berks Catholic. The Raiders, who are coming off a 10-win season, piled up 512 total yards. Twin Valley came out with an uptempo attack. “It’s great to see some teams panting and gasping for air,” said Myers. The four-year starter was 9-of-14 for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He added 112 yards and another score on the ground on just five carries. “We’re only as good as our linemen will be and they had a good day. They’ve proven that their hard work has been paying off,” replied Myers. The front five for the Raiders average 278 pounds. Left tackle Aris Drake (6’5, 295) is committed to Navy. Carter Faubel, a 270-pound transfer from Delaware Valley, is a physical presence at left guard and defensive tackle. Center Noah DiGiacomo (5’11, 235) and right guard Greyson Miller (6’1, 255) both started as sophomores a season ago. Junior Zach Troutman (6’2, 335) has stepped in at right tackle. Myers raced untouched down the right sideline for a 45-yard TD midway through the opening quarter. He then rolled left and went deep to Knight for a 44-yard TD pass with 33 seconds remaining in the first period. Berks Catholic punter Devyn Sutton fumbled a snap early in the second quarter which was returned seven yards for a score by Ryan Rementer. After a 29-yard field goal by Tyler Osorio got the Saints on the board, sophomore Lucas Myers capped a 72-yard drive with a 2-yard run that came 28 seconds before halftime. Drew Engle bounced a handoff down the right sideline for a 42-yard TD three minutes into the second half. Engle, who had 77 yards on seven carries, made it 35-3. After Lucas Myers recovered a Berks Catholic fumble, Evan Myers lofted a 47-yard TD pass to Ben Grundy with 7:32 to go in the third quarter. That score put the mercy rule into effect. Grundy, a 6’1 junior, had four receptions for 91 yards. Evan Johnson chipped in with ten carries for 82 yards. The Saints scored twice in the final six minutes. Zach Suski tossed a 3-yard TD pass to junior fullback Nate Rose. Three minutes later, Faith Zudie blocked a Twin Valley punt and recovered it in the end zone. Berks Catholic ended up with 195 total yards in Dave Stahler’s debut as head coach. Rose finished with 55 yards on a dozen carries. Suski went 12-of-16 for 138 yards. The Saints lost Bryce Gumby and Gavin Welker to injuries in the first half. Meanwhile, Evan Myers got his senior campaign off to a terrific start. “High school football is a great atmosphere…While I’m enjoying my senior year already, it’s sad that we only have nine guaranteed games left,” he said.

Evan Johnson-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/evan-johnson-twin-valley-2/ Fri, 26 Jul 2024 19:43:02 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4326 Evan Johnson doesn’t just perform under the bright lights on Friday night. He also performs on stage. The Twin Valley RB/FS enjoys participating in high school musicals. As a sophomore, Johnson had a lead role in “Grease.” He’ll be a key figure once again this fall on the gridiron. The 5’11, 160-pound rising senior averaged 9.6 yards per carry a season ago. Johnson ran for 936 yards and a dozen touchdowns. The Raiders went (10-2, 5-1) and earned a share of the Section 3 championship with Ephrata and Garden Spot. Their season ended with a 65-28 loss at home to Manheim Central in the District 3-4A semifinals. “Ever since that Manheim [Central] game, we’ve been working very hard and we’re not looking back,” said Johnson. Twin Valley returns eight starters on offense and five on defense. Evan Myers, son of head coach Brett Myers, is back for his fourth year as the starting quarterback. He completed 59 percent of his passes and threw for 1,472 yards in 2023. Myers’ top target, junior Ben Grundy, had 27 receptions for 505 yards last year. Myers is the Raiders’ all-time passing leader. They can run the ball too. Johnson will be joined in the backfield by junior Drew Engle. As a sophomore, Engle piled up 1,411 yards on the ground with 13 scores. He averaged a remarkable 10.5 yards per carry. Navy commit Aris Drake (6’5, 295) will help pave the way for the two speedsters. Delaware Valley transfer Carter Faubel (6’1, 280) will step in at guard. Greyson Miller and Noah DiGiacomo both started on the offensive line as sophomores last fall. Lucas Myers, Evan’s younger brother, is a rising sophomore with a bright future at linebacker. Johnson stays busy after football season. He’s a sprinter on the track and field team, as well as a basketball player. “They help me a lot…hand-eye coordination, speed, being a leader,” said Johnson. He ran 11.51 seconds in the 100 meters. Twin Valley is moving down to Section 4 this year. The Raiders open the season at Berks Catholic on August 23. “I’m looking forward to it a lot, never played them. It will be a fight,” replied Johnson.

Luke Wagner-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/luke-wagner-twin-valley/ Sat, 20 Apr 2024 12:46:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4184 Luke Wagner’s first extra-base hit of the season came at the right moment. Twin Valley’s junior catcher crushed a three-run double off the wall in left-center to put the Raiders up 12-7 in the 8th at Exeter. That was the final margin as Twin Valley extended its winning streak to six. “I was looking to do something big. We needed more runs. He gave me a pitch I could hit and I took advantage of it,” said Wagner. The (8-3, 5-0) Raiders rallied from a 6-2 deficit after five innings. “We never give up. We always have something to say, something to answer,” replied Wagner. Twin Valley got a pair of runs in the 1st off sophomore Kamren Martin. The righty was just called up to the varsity team on Thursday. Martin settled down and allowed two runs on four hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked two. The (6-5, 2-4) Eagles responded immediately with four runs in the first frame. Brandon Weller singled to center field to score Alex Kelsey. Weller, a freshman catcher, had four of Exeter’s twelve hits on Friday afternoon. He knocked in three runs. Jake Franek’s RBI double to right-center tied it up. The Eagles took the lead on a wild pitch and a ground out. They added two more runs in the 2nd inning thanks to four consecutive hits with two outs. Jake Hafer and Weller provided RBI singles. Hafer, Kelsey, and Carter Redding each went 2-for-4. Kelsey, an All-County center fielder who’s committed to St. Joseph’s, scored three runs. The southpaw took over on the mound for sophomore Liam Porter in the 6th with two men on and nobody out. Wagner drew a bases loaded walk to get the Raiders within 6-3. Wagner, who’s batting .323, was walked three times. Logan Crunkleton grounded out to shortstop, but the throw to first base got away. Twin Valley scored two runs on the play. After a single by leadoff hitter Roman Cieless, Ben Vaughan hammered a two-run double to left-center to give the Raiders a 7-6 advantage. They managed five runs on only two hits in the 6th inning. A two-out line drive single to left field by Weller tied the game in the bottom half of the frame. Exeter put runners on first and second in the 7th, but Owen Rhoads got Kelsey to fly out to center to force extra innings in Reiffton. Rhoads earned the win in relief. He limited the Eagles to one run on two hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. “That was big. He’s one of our best pitchers. I was really comfortable with him coming in,” noted Wagner. Jon Oxendine gave up six runs, four earned, on ten hits in 4.2 innings. He struck out eleven and walked one. Oxendine and Rhoads are both committed to Elizabethtown College. Kelsey walked Nate Lord with the bases loaded to force in the go-ahead run in the 8th. Kevin Eden’s infield single with two outs made it 9-7. Wagner cleared the bases with a double. Wagner, Eden, Cieless, and Vaughan finished with two hits apiece. Designated hitter Paul Colombo was 1-for-3 with a couple of walks. He’s headed to Division II Anderson University in South Carolina. Colombo is batting .483 and Cieless is up to .486 this year. The young Eagles have dropped four of their last five games. They only had two seniors in the starting lineup. Kelsey was charged with eight runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. Exeter committed four errors. Meanwhile, Twin Valley is trying to bounce back from a (10-10) campaign a season ago. The Raiders didn’t qualify for the BCIAA or District 3 playoffs. “We know we’re more than mediocre. We’re pushing ourselves. We’re striving for those playoffs,” stated Wagner.

Ean Winchester-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/ean-winchester-twin-valley/ Sat, 11 Nov 2023 01:23:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3875 When it’s cold and windy, there’s nothing like having a big offensive line along with a 260-pound fullback. Second-seeded Twin Valley has both. The Raiders ran for 352 yards in a 35-7 victory over seventh-seeded ELCO. The (10-1) Raiders averaged 8.2 yards per carry while advancing to the District 3-4A semifinals for the second year in a row. “The O-line is doing a great job blocking up front. Without them we can’t do anything,” emphasized Ean Winchester. The senior FB/DT is a force on both sides of the ball. Winchester is joined on the defensive line by Markell Norris, Ben Savidge, and Kyle Kline. All four of them are seniors. Sophomores Greyson Miller and Mark Minardi are also part of the rotation. Linebackers Lucas Myers and Danny Murphy helped to hold ELCO scoreless until the first play of the fourth quarter when Jake Williams ripped off a 47-yard touchdown run. Williams entered the night with 2,233 rushing yards and 29 TD this year. He ends his career with more than 4,900 yards after going for 168 on 22 carries in Elverson. Twin Valley put together two long drives in the first quarter. Speedy sophomore Drew Engle polished off an 80-yard march with a 7-yard touchdown. That was followed by a 79-yard possession which included Evan Myers’ 57-yard pass down the right sideline to sophomore Ben Grundy. Winchester plowed into the end zone from two yards away for a 14-0 advantage. ELCO punted the first five times it had the football. Twin Valley went just 48 yards for its third score. Engle’s 2-yard run made it 21-0 with 8:10 remaining before halftime. Myers used his legs on a 52-yard score with 1:44 left in the second quarter. “He made a great fake and tricked the whole defense,” said Winchester. Twin Valley went on a 92-yard drive in the third quarter which invoked the mercy rule. A 5-yard run by Evan Johnson put the Raiders in front 35-0 with three minutes to go in the third period. ELCO, which was making its eighth appearance in the District 3 playoffs, finishes (8-4). They were outgained 447-to-229. Engle had 196 yards on 22 carries. He has surpassed 1,400 yards this season. Myers added 92 yards on six touches. The 5’10, 180-pound junior was 6-of-11 through the air for 95 yards and an interception. Johnson provided 46 yards on a dozen carries. He’s just shy of 1,100 yards this year. They run behind an offensive line that averages 269 pounds. Winchester is a battering ram at fullback. He’s committed to George Mason for wrestling. “I loved the campus. I love the vibe down there. The coaches were amazing, the team was amazing,” he replied. Winchester won the BCIAA heavyweight championship last season. He has a career record of (94-18). On top of that, he’s also an All-County lacrosse player. Winchester noted that being a multi-sport athlete is beneficial. “It helps so much. The body control that comes with each sport all relates together,” he explained. Twin Valley will host third-seeded Manheim Central next Friday in the semifinals.

Lucas Myers-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/lucas-myers-twin-valley/ Sun, 22 Oct 2023 12:57:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3839 After suffering a 52-33 loss at Ephrata last week, Twin Valley had plenty of motivation heading into Friday’s matchup with Daniel Boone. The (8-1) Raiders racked up 433 rushing yards in a 54-7 rout of the (1-8) Blazers. “We bounced back really well and our week at practice was better than a lot of our other weeks,” said Lucas Myers. The 6’, 190-pound freshman ran for 102 yards and four touchdowns on six carries. His 71-yard score made it 34-0 with 6:46 remaining in the second quarter. All of his touchdowns came in the first half. “Our offensive line did really well making great holes…barely anybody was touching me at all and it was easy from there,” noted Myers. He had just eight carries in the previous eight games. That’s understandable when you’re on the same team as Evan Johnson and Drew Engle. They’re both over 1,000 yards on the ground this season, while averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Johnson and Engle each got two touches versus a short-handed Daniel Boone squad. Engle’s 35-yard TD run put Twin Valley in front 20-0. On their next possession, Johnson raced 44 yards to the end zone. It was 27-0 with 27 seconds left in the opening period. The Blazers trailed 47-0 at the break. They were limited to five yards in the first half. It’s been a tough first season for head coach J.D. Okuniewski. The Daniel Boone graduate was without seven two-way starters on Friday due to an assortment of injuries. Captains Ethan Kryman, Haydn Moyer, and Jordan Meyer (6’4, 275) were not in uniform. Senior RB/LB Jake Myers was injured back in the preseason. Freddy Lacey got the Blazers on the board with a 1-yard TD run with 40 seconds to go. The 6’2 sophomore finished with 52 yards on 20 carries. Raiders’ junior quarterback Evan Myers did most of his damage on the ground on a rainy night in Elverson. Myers ran for 171 yards and a score on eight carries. He went 9-of-14 for 50 yards through the air. Lucas Myers enjoys playing with his older brother. “It’s awesome talking to him on the field, seeing what he sees,” replied Lucas. Twin Valley clinched at least a share of the Section 3 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. The Raiders have a (5-1) league mark. Ephrata and Garden Spot sit at (4-1). Twin Valley wraps up the regular season at home against Hatboro-Horsham.

Drew Engle-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-engle-twin-valley/ Thu, 05 Oct 2023 17:27:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3807 People across the state have noticed what is happening on the gridiron in Elverson. Twin Valley is undefeated, averaging 41 points, and ranked #10 in Class 4A by PennLive. “When we put in work and then it pays off on Friday nights, it’s so much fun,” said Drew Engle. Opponents aren’t having any fun trying to slow down Engle. The 5’10, 175-pound sophomore is averaging an eye-popping 12.6 yards per carry with seven touchdowns. He leads the (6-0, 3-0) Raiders with 847 rushing yards. Engle has gone over 100 yards five times this season. He piled up 198 yards and two scores against Fleetwood in Week 4. The young speedster finished with 190 yards and a touchdown versus Lower Dauphin in Week 2. Engle gave credit to his offensive line which averages 269 pounds. “They’re massive. They’re some of our hardest workers. It makes me feel safe running behind a bunch of big boys,” he replied. Left guard Paul McClune and tackles Aris Drake and Sam Donnellan are each between 290-and-295 pounds. Right guard Greyson Miller and center Noah DiGiacomo have cracked the starting lineup as sophomores. Twin Valley is averaging 329 yards per game on the ground. Junior Evan Johnson is just shy of 800 yards this year. He and Engle have formed a powerful 1-2 punch. They’re both sprinters on the track team. Engle also plays lacrosse. The Raiders host unbeaten Garden Spot on Friday. First place in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League is up for grabs. Spartans’ quarterback Kye Harting has thrown for 1,098 yards and rushed for 747. He has 31 combined touchdowns. Engle also starts at safety while carrying a 3.8 GPA. “This will probably be one of the biggest games I’ll be in, really excited for that one,” he said.

Paul McClune-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/paul-mcclune-twin-valley/ Fri, 18 Aug 2023 18:33:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3702 Twin Valley reached new heights last year by winning a District 3 playoff game for the first time in school history. The fourth-seeded Raiders took down fifth-seeded Milton Hershey 43-29 in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Paul McClune believes the younger players will benefit greatly from that postseason experience. “I think they’re gonna be a lot more comfortable playing in big pressure moments,” he replied. Twin Valley’s roster in 2022 included 22 juniors, 15 sophomores, and only eight seniors. A lot of key parts are returning to Elverson. “We’ve played together for so long that I have big expectations for this group,” said McClune. The 6’4, 295-pound senior has an offer from Division I Morgan State. He was a second team guard in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League a season ago. Evan Myers will be starting at quarterback for the third straight year. The rising junior can beat opponents with his arm and his legs. Myers passed for just over 1,200 yards with only three interceptions. He added eleven rushing touchdowns. Speedy running back Evan Johnson finished with 992 yards and 17 scores during his sophomore campaign. Multi-sport star Ean Winchester is a physical presence on both sides of the ball. The 6’2, 250-pound senior had 70 tackles and nine sacks for the (7-5) Raiders. Winchester is an all-county wrestler and lacrosse player. Twin Valley split its six league games last fall. The Raiders finished in a tie for fourth place behind Solanco, Elizabethtown, and Garden Spot. McClune is a Steelers’ fan who enjoys fishing in his spare time. He had a short answer when asked who the favorite is in Section 3 this year. McClune responded, “Us.”

Week 13 Preview-Football https://berkssportsreport.com/week-13-preview-football/ Fri, 18 Nov 2022 18:01:03 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3206 Three Berks County football teams are still alive in the District 3 playoffs.  Exeter and Twin Valley are in action on Friday at 7pm.  Wyomissing will take the field on Saturday at 1pm.  Here’s a preview of their matchups.  I’ll be covering the Eagles and the Spartans this week.

#11 Northern York at #2 Exeter-District 3-5A Semifinals:

The (11-0) Eagles are flying high.  They’re averaging 40.5 points per game while allowing just 11.  Exeter hammered #7 Dover 42-12 in the quarterfinals at Don Thomas Stadium.  Mason Rotelli is completing 69% of his passes with 21 TD and 6 INT.  His top target is Penn State commit Joey Schlaffer who has 33 receptions and 10 TD.  The 6’6, 215-pound senior is averaging 23 yards per catch.  Richie Karstien is a hammer at running back.  The 215-pound senior has rumbled for 1,366 yards and 18 TD.  Delaware-bound OL/DL Anthony Caccese leads the Eagles with 7 sacks and 20 TFL.  Lucas Palange is their top tackler with 65 stops.  Kyle Lash adds 4.5 sacks and 16 TFL.  Both Exeter and Northern York are making their 13 appearance in the District 3 playoffs.  The Eagles are the defending champs in Class 5A.  The (8-4) Polar Bears are trying to reach the District 3 Final for the first time.  Cole Bartram is a player to watch for Northern York.  The 180-pound junior has 1,554 rushing yards and 16 scores.  Bartram also leads the squad with 131 tackles.  Timmy Bonin has tossed 9 TD passes this season and six have gone to Mason Yohn.  The 6′, 175-pound senior is a factor on defense as well with 6 INT.  The Polar Bears have won four straight and six of their last seven contests.  They advanced to the semifinals with victories over #6 South Western and #3 New Oxford.

#4 Twin Valley at #1 Bishop McDevitt-District 3-4A Semifinals:

The (7-4) Raiders have reached the Final Four in the District 3 tournament for the first time in program history.  They knocked off #5 Milton Hershey 43-29 in the quarterfinals to earn their first victory in the District 3 playoffs.  This is just their second appearance in the field.  “Evan squared” has been a dynamic one-two punch in Elverson.  Sophomore running back Evan Johnson surpassed 1,000 yards last week.  He’s averaging 8 yards a pop with 15 TD.  Sophomore quarterback Evan Myers has 7 TD through the air and 11 on the ground.  The son of head coach Brett Myers has 1,642 combined yards this season.  The Raiders also have a power back in Jaydon Goebel.  The 6’2, 210-pound senior has provided 872 yards and 15 scores.  Twin Valley is allowing nearly 25 points per game.  The Raiders will be facing one of the most explosive offenses in the state.  Bishop McDevitt is putting up 52 points a night.  The (9-1) Crusaders were defeated by Imhotep Charter 19-14 in their season-opener.  They haven’t been challenged since.  Stone Saunders has thrown for 2,773 yards and 41 TD with just one INT.  He’s only a sophomore.  Saunders has several Division I offers including Georgia, Michigan, and Texas A&M.  His top targets are 6’1 junior Rico Scott and 6’3 senior TaShawn Russell.  They’ve combined for 87 receptions, 1,833 yards, and 28 TD.  Scott’s offers include Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and Auburn.  Russell has been offered by South Carolina and Virginia Tech among others.  Bishop McDevitt is searching for its 16th District 3 title.  Only Manheim Central has captured more with 18 championships.

#3 West Perry at #1 Wyomissing-District 3-3A Championship:

The (11-0) Spartans have reached the District 3 Final for the 19th time.  Their overall record in the District 3 playoffs is (39-18) with ten titles.  Wyomissing is going for its fourth consecutive championship.  The Spartans are certainly part of District 3 royalty.  The (11-1) Mustangs, on the other hand, have never claimed District 3 gold.  West Perry’s only other appearance in a final was back in 1999 when they fell to Manheim Central 28-21.  The “Law Firm” of Eisenhower, Kramer, and McIntyre has kept Wyomissing’s ground attack running like a well-oiled machine.  Drew Eisenhower (650 yards/9 TD), Matt Kramer (754 yards/21 TD), and Charlie McIntyre (781 yards/10 TD) are accompanied by some massive offensive linemen including Penn State commit Jven Williams (6’5, 295).  College coaches have shown a lot of interest recently in Caleb Brewer.  The 6’5, 290-pound junior has picked up offers from numerous DI schools including Pittsburgh, Maryland, Illinois, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, and Princeton.  The Spartans don’t put the ball up often, but Ben Zechman has been extremely efficient with 10 TD and 1 INT.  If Wyomissing prevails on Saturday, Bob Wolfrum will become the winningest coach in District 3 history.  The “Wizard of the Wing-T” is currently tied with former Manheim Central skipper Mike Williams at 348 victories.  West Perry racked up a season-high 63 points in the semifinals at previously unbeaten Lancaster Catholic.  The Mustangs eliminated #6 Schuylkill Valley 45-21 in the quarterfinals.  This is West Perry’s seventh appearance in the District 3 tournament.  The Mustangs are averaging nearly 44 points while giving up 16.5 per game.  Their only loss came at the hands of Steel-High 53-34 in the regular season finale.  Quarterback Marcus Quaker does it all for West Perry.  The 5’11, 165-pound junior has passed for 1,838 yards and rushed for 1,171 this year.  Quaker has 44 combined touchdowns.  Ian Goodling is his go-to-guy.  The 6′, 170-pound junior has 61 grabs for 1,115 yards and 13 TD.  Goodling also leads the team with 72 tackles and 5 INT.  Trent Herrera needs 83 yards to reach 1,000 this season.  The 5’5, 145-pound senior is averaging 6.3 yards per carry with nine scores.  Brad Hockenberry is a young player to keep an eye on.  The 180-pound sophomore has 66 tackles, 16 TFL, and 3 picks.  Senior DL Derek Snook and Josh Trostle have combined for 28.5 TFL.
