Olsen – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Wed, 22 Jun 2022 22:30:21 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Twin Valley Opens Football Coaching Position https://berkssportsreport.com/twin-valley-opens-football-coaching-position/ Wed, 22 Jun 2022 18:29:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2794 In a surprising move, I’ve learned that the Twin Valley School District is opening the position of head varsity football coach. Kris Olsen and his staff took the Raiders to new heights last year. They reached the District 3 playoffs for the first time in school history. It was Olsen’s first season at the helm in Elverson. Before becoming the head coach, Olsen served as Twin Valley’s offensive coordinator under Dean Owens. Olsen was told of the decision to open the position today. He declined to comment. Olsen guided the (6-5, 3-2) Raiders to their first winning season since 2007. They won four of their first five games, including a 37-34 double overtime thriller against Conrad Weiser in late September. Twin Valley earned the #13 seed in the District 3-5A tournament. The Raiders lost 33-6 at fourth-seeded Spring Grove in the opening round. The Raiders will have to replace Dominic Caruso and Trey Freeman. The pair of four-year starters both graduated this year. Caruso ended his career as Twin Valley’s all-time leading rusher. Freeman finished with the most receiving yards in Berks County history. Quarterback Evan Myers will return for his sophomore campaign. His father, Brett, was the head coach at Middletown for eight seasons. The Blue Raiders reached the Class 3A state championship game from 2016-‘18. Brett Myers is working in the Twin Valley School District. The Raiders had a large group of underclassmen in 2021. 32 of the 48 players on their roster were freshmen and sophomores. Twin Valley will be in Section 3 of the new Lancaster-Lebanon Football League in 2022.

Kris Olsen-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/kris-olsen-twin-valley-2/ Wed, 03 Nov 2021 20:22:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1976 This is Kris Olsen’s first season as the Raiders’ head coach and what a year it has been in Elverson. Twin Valley qualified for the District 3 football playoffs for the first time in school history! The (6-4) Raiders are enjoying their first winning season since 2007. Olsen, who had been Twin Valley’s offensive coordinator and a longtime assistant at Downingtown West, told me that he learned a lot about his team in the season opener. The Raiders outlasted Garden Spot 27-24 in overtime. We talked about four-year starters Dom Caruso and Trey Freeman. Caruso is the school’s all-time leading rusher with nearly 3,600 yards. Freeman has the most receiving yards in Berks County history with over 2,200. Olsen said freshman quarterback Evan Myers continues to improve. Five of the seven teams in Section 2 of the Berks Football League have winning records and six are going to the postseason. Olsen is glad to see these schools getting more attention. Plus, a scouting report on #4 seed Spring Grove. The Rockets are (8-1). #13 Twin Valley travels to Spring Grove on Friday in the first round of the District 3-5A playoffs.

Kris Olsen-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/kris-olsen-twin-valley/ Mon, 30 Aug 2021 22:39:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1497 Dean Owens did a great job turning around the Twin Valley football program. Owens stepped down after last season and his offensive coordinator, Kris Olsen, took over as head coach. Prior to coming to Twin Valley, Olsen spent two years as an assistant coach at Downingtown followed by eleven years as an assistant at Downingtown West. He played QB in high school at Dover before moving on to play at West Chester University. Olsen picked up a win in his first game as the Raiders’ head coach. Twin Valley outlasted Garden Spot 27-24 in overtime. Olsen described his emotions after that nailbiter. We talked about his talented group of skill position players including Dom Caruso, Trey Freeman, and freshman QB Evan Myers. Olsen also likes the size of his offensive line. Finally, we talked about the large number of young players on this year’s roster.
