McIntyre – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Sun, 20 Nov 2022 14:55:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Charlie McIntyre-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/charlie-mcintyre-wyomissing-3/ Sun, 20 Nov 2022 09:49:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3213 If you ever used Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl on the original Nintendo, you know what Wyomissing’s rushing attack looked like in the District 3-3A championship. The Spartans finished with an eye-popping 622 yards on 41 carries! They rolled over third-seeded West Perry 63-7 to capture their fourth straight District 3 title and eleventh overall. Top-seeded Wyomissing reached the end zone on nine of its eleven drives. The (11-2) Mustangs struck first on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Quaker to Ian Goodling. 14 of Quaker’s 22 TD tosses this season have gone to Goodling. The 5’11, 165-pound junior entered Saturday’s contest with 3,009 combined passing and rushing yards. After the opening possession, it was all Spartans. Charlie McIntyre sprinted 73 yards for a score on their second play. The speedy 180-pound senior added a 63-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter for a 49-7 advantage. “On both my touchdowns, I didn’t even get touched. For them to create a hole that a bus can drive through, it’s pretty good to have that every play,” said McIntyre. The (12-0) Spartans averaged an astonishing 15.2 yards per carry despite being without 290-pound tight end Caleb Brewer. The 6’5 junior with numerous Division I offers is expected to return from an MCL injury next week. Penn State commit Jven Williams (6’5, 295) and Pacen Ziegler (6’4, 275) led the way in the most lopsided championship game in District 3 history. Matthew Kramer provided touchdown runs on Wyomissing’s second, third, and fourth series. The 6’1, 215-pound fullback piled up 151 yards and 3 TD on 14 carries. Kramer has 905 yards and 24 TD this year. After each team turned the ball over twice, the Spartans took over with 1:23 remaining before halftime. Drew Eisenhower broke off a 31-yard run. The 190-pound RB/S capped the drive with an 11-yard score just 23 seconds before the break. West Perry trailed 35-7 after two quarters. The Mustangs were making their second appearance in a District 3 final. They fell to Manheim Central 28-21 in 1999. West Perry recovered an onside kick to begin the second half, but turned it over on downs at Wyomissing’s 28-yard line. A 41-yard touchdown run down the right sideline by junior Ryker Jones put the mercy rule into effect. Jeremiah Diaz took off for an 80-yard touchdown with 3:48 left for the final margin. The Spartans only attempted two passes. Ben Zechman was 1-of-2 for 15 yards. Wyomissing outgained West Perry 637-350. Quaker wound up 17-of-25 for 185 yards. He was intercepted by Ethan Brower in the second quarter. The Mustangs had three turnovers. Goodling was a bright spot for West Perry with ten receptions for 124 yards. He wraps up his junior campaign with 71 grabs for 1,239 yards. The Spartans had another reason to celebrate on Saturday. Bob Wolfrum became the winningest head coach in District 3 history. He surpassed former Manheim Central coach Mike Williams with his 349th career victory. Wolfrum is (349-86-1) over 36 seasons. “He’s one of the best coaches in PA, if not thee best. He’s not a big rah-rah guy. His speech may have been three words after a District championship, but when he talks it really counts,” emphasized McIntyre. He racked up 165 yards on only five carries. Eisenhower contributed 84 yards on six touches. His brother Chase, a 210-pound freshman fullback, chipped in with 66 yards on seven carries. Wyomissing will travel to (12-0) Danville on Friday night for a state quarterfinal. “We’re not done yet. We’ve still got work to do. We want to get over the hill. We want to come out with that bigger trophy,” stated McIntyre.

Charlie McIntyre-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/charlie-mcintyre-wyomissing-2/ Sat, 10 Sep 2022 19:44:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3011 Charlie McIntyre only had twelve carries in Wyomissing’s first two games. Welcome to life in the Wing-T offense. The Spartans’ running backs share the workload and that’s just fine with McIntyre. “None of us really worry about stats. We’re just trying to win games and that’s our mentality. Just run the ball as hard as you can, and just do your job,” said McIntyre. The 180-pound senior made the most of his touches on Saturday afternoon against Trinity. McIntyre racked up 154 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. The (3-0) Spartans defeated the (1-2) Shamrocks 35-14. McIntyre set the tone on Wyomissing’s third play from scrimmage. He got a key block from senior guard Jack Gartner and burst 80 yards for a score. McIntyre knows he’s running behind an elite offensive line that includes Penn State commit Jven Williams. “After every play I thank the big guys up front because they do their job extremely well. It just makes our job incredibly easy,” he stated. The trio of Williams, senior tackle Pacen Ziegler, and junior tight end Caleb Brewer weigh in at 845 combined pounds. McIntyre was on the Spartans’ Class AA state championship Track & Field team in the spring. He raced 14 yards off the right side for a touchdown with 2:35 remaining in the first half. Trinity trailed 21-0 at the break. Wyomissing marched 66 yards on only four plays to begin the third quarter. McIntyre ran twice for 44 yards on that series. Drew Eisenhower finished it off from two yards away. The 190-pound senior moved from halfback to fullback due to injuries to Matthew Kramer and Collin Niedrowski. Kramer was in uniform, but didn’t play because of an ankle sprain. Niedrowski was out with a calf injury. Eisenhower ended up with 72 yards and two scores on eight carries. He went untouched off left tackle for a 12-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. The Spartans piled up 372 yards including 317 on the ground. They reached the end zone on their first five drives and didn’t punt until midway through the fourth quarter. The Shamrocks were limited to 203 total yards, and 58 of that came on Tanie Young’s touchdown run with 4:48 to go. By that time, Wyomissing’s backups were in the game. After a fumble by Drew Forrey, freshman Messiah Mickens scored on a 4-yard run. Mickens already has an offer from Texas A&M. The 5’10, 185-pound youngster led Trinity with 59 yards on eight carries. 6’3 junior Caleb Wray was 4-of-10 for 15 yards. He was intercepted by Drew Eisenhower in the first period. Drew’s younger brother, Chase, chipped in with 45 yards and a touchdown on six carries. He’s a 210-pound freshman who started at linebacker on Saturday. The Spartans visit Berks Catholic next week. I asked McIntyre about that rivalry. He replied, “It means everything. It’s been one of the greatest rivalries in Berks County history. Everyone is excited for it. Everyone shows up.” The Saints are the last team to beat Wyomissing in the regular season. That was back on October 27, 2018. Berks Catholic is winless this year. Meanwhile, the Spartans have outscored their three opponents 133-14. McIntyre is a Philadelphia Eagles fan and he thinks they’ll be very good this season. However, he added, “It’s a Philly team so they might always let us down.”

They rolled to a 35-7 victory over Boyertown and improved to (3-0). Wyomissing is ranked #3 in the state in Class 3A by PennLive. Junior HB Charlie McIntyre finished with 69 yards and a TD on eight carries vs. the Bears. He broke off runs of 23 and 25 yards. McIntyre said the depth that the Spartans have helps to keep all of the RB’s fresh. He described Jven Williams as a “brick wall.” Williams is a 6’4, 310-pound junior OL/DL who’s getting DI interest. We also talked about the Wing-T offense and legendary head coach Bob Wolfrum.
