The Raiders led 20-0 after the first quarter and 39-3 at halftime in Elverson. “Our whole team was playing aggressive. Our coaches were making aggressive calls, trusting that we’re gonna make the plays,” said Lucas Myers. The 6’1, 215-pound junior was a force on both sides of the ball in the 45-19 victory. Myers ran for 58 yards and three touchdowns on six carries. He also had four tackles and a sack from his linebacker position. Drew Engle was injured in last year’s opener with the Saints and missed the rest of the regular season. Engle finished with 152 yards and a score on Friday night. The Army lacrosse commit did all of his damage on eight carries in the first half. Engle added an interception and had an electrifying 98-yard touchdown run called back.

The Saints were missing Owen Schalk, their top running back, and 285-pound defensive tackle Damoni Daglis. Schalk returns next week and Daglis will be back in Week 3. Berks Catholic went three and out on the opening drive. Grant Moser then blocked a punt to set up Twin Valley at the 33-yard line. Engle’s 29-yard TD run made it 7-0 three and a-half minutes into the game. Sophomore quarterback Maverik Foster, who made his first career start, hit Ben Grundy for a 27-yard gain on the Raiders’ second series. Ryan Rementer capped it off with an 8-yard run up the middle. The 6’1, 200-pound senior had 41 yards on five carries, as well as a team-high seven tackles. “He’s definitely gonna make plays. He’s been working hard all offseason. He’s one of those guys that has been at every lift, always working hard,” noted Myers. With 1:46 remaining in the first quarter, Myers ripped off a 27-yard touchdown run for a 20-0 advantage.

Berks Catholic sophomore Coy Koller recovered a fumble which gave the Saints the ball at Twin Valley’s 17-yard line midway through the second quarter. Berks Catholic settled for a 31-yard field goal from Jay Tripathi. Grundy, a track standout, took the ensuing kickoff 98 yards up the middle for a touchdown. The Saints then lost a fumble at their 23-yard line while returning a kickoff. Myers rumbled nine yards for another score and a 32-3 lead with four minutes to go before halftime. After Engle’s interception, Foster found Dominic Summers on the right side of the end zone for a 12-yard score. Foster was 6-of-8 for 80 yards. “He’s comfortable, he’s making plays, and he’s communicating. He looks like he’s not a sophomore. He looks like he’s a vet that’s been here for years,” remarked Myers. Foster took over for Myers’ older brother, Evan, who’s at Kutztown University. Evan was a four-year starter under center and the school’s all-time passing leader with more than 5,000 yards. A 7-yard touchdown run by Lucas Myers put the Raiders in front 45-3 with 6:49 left in the third quarter. Koller and backup quarterback Braden Pennington had touchdown runs for Berks Catholic in the fourth quarter.

Twin Valley ended up with 362 total yards, including 282 on the ground. The Raiders had 236 rushing yards in the first half. They went (9-3, 5-2) a season ago and reached the District 3-4A semifinals. This is Brett Myers’ fourth year as head coach. “It’s awesome playing for my dad. We can go home and talk about the game…It’s always football, even in the offseason, it’s always football. It’s a football household,” said Lucas Myers.

Lucas Myers-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/lucas-myers-twin-valley/ Sun, 22 Oct 2023 12:57:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3839 After suffering a 52-33 loss at Ephrata last week, Twin Valley had plenty of motivation heading into Friday’s matchup with Daniel Boone. The (8-1) Raiders racked up 433 rushing yards in a 54-7 rout of the (1-8) Blazers. “We bounced back really well and our week at practice was better than a lot of our other weeks,” said Lucas Myers. The 6’, 190-pound freshman ran for 102 yards and four touchdowns on six carries. His 71-yard score made it 34-0 with 6:46 remaining in the second quarter. All of his touchdowns came in the first half. “Our offensive line did really well making great holes…barely anybody was touching me at all and it was easy from there,” noted Myers. He had just eight carries in the previous eight games. That’s understandable when you’re on the same team as Evan Johnson and Drew Engle. They’re both over 1,000 yards on the ground this season, while averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Johnson and Engle each got two touches versus a short-handed Daniel Boone squad. Engle’s 35-yard TD run put Twin Valley in front 20-0. On their next possession, Johnson raced 44 yards to the end zone. It was 27-0 with 27 seconds left in the opening period. The Blazers trailed 47-0 at the break. They were limited to five yards in the first half. It’s been a tough first season for head coach J.D. Okuniewski. The Daniel Boone graduate was without seven two-way starters on Friday due to an assortment of injuries. Captains Ethan Kryman, Haydn Moyer, and Jordan Meyer (6’4, 275) were not in uniform. Senior RB/LB Jake Myers was injured back in the preseason. Freddy Lacey got the Blazers on the board with a 1-yard TD run with 40 seconds to go. The 6’2 sophomore finished with 52 yards on 20 carries. Raiders’ junior quarterback Evan Myers did most of his damage on the ground on a rainy night in Elverson. Myers ran for 171 yards and a score on eight carries. He went 9-of-14 for 50 yards through the air. Lucas Myers enjoys playing with his older brother. “It’s awesome talking to him on the field, seeing what he sees,” replied Lucas. Twin Valley clinched at least a share of the Section 3 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. The Raiders have a (5-1) league mark. Ephrata and Garden Spot sit at (4-1). Twin Valley wraps up the regular season at home against Hatboro-Horsham.

Lucas Palange-Exeter https://berkssportsreport.com/lucas-palange-exeter/ Wed, 06 Oct 2021 21:17:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1783 Lucas Palange is not only a very good football player, he’s also a 4.0 student at Exeter. I asked the junior G/LB a lot of questions including who’s the smartest player on the Eagles’ team. I also found out which lineman can put away the most food. Palange is second on the team in tackles with 32. He and Richie Karstien are tied for first in sacks with 3.5 through six games. Palange talked about facing PSU commit Nick Singleton of Gov. Mifflin on Friday. Singleton is Berks County’s all-time rushing leader. Palange is expecting the student section at Don Thomas Stadium to be fired up! He described what it’s like to watch 220-pound FB Ty Yocum run over people. You’ll hear if Palange prefers playing offense or defense, and what type of music the Eagles listen to before a game. Plus, he told me to keep an eye out for twins Ryan and Matt McConnell next season.
