Logan – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Thu, 03 Aug 2023 18:33:05 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Logan Kurzweg-Wilson https://berkssportsreport.com/logan-kurzweg-wilson/ Thu, 03 Aug 2023 14:25:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3673 Logan Kurzweg isn’t lacking in the confidence department as the season approaches. The 5’11, 275-pound rising senior is one of four returning starters on Wilson’s offensive line. “I’m fully confident in our O-line. I think our O-line is going to stack up against any [D-line] in the state, and I’m gonna take us every single time,” he said. Kurzweg was named the first team center in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League last year. The (8-3, 5-1) Bulldogs averaged 6.8 yards per carry. “Coach Palm knows if we can run the ball every play, that’s what I want to do,” emphasized Kurzweg. Offensive coordinator Jeremy Palm is entering his 23rd season on Wilson’s staff. Doug Dahms is back for his 18th year as head coach in West Lawn. His 178 victories are the most in school history. The Bulldogs haven’t had a losing campaign since 1963. They finished second to Hempfield in the Section 1 race a season ago. Wilson fell at #3 seed Harrisburg 32-21 in the District 3-6A quarterfinals. The Bulldogs lost All-State and Big 33 selection Cam Jones to graduation. Jones accounted for 24 combined touchdowns and a team-high 978 rushing yards. Tommy Hunsicker returns at quarterback and should have time to throw with Kurzweg, Jack Dendall, Ryan McMillan, and Derek Reiniger blocking up front along with tight end Brady Kline. Dendall (6’3, 260) has four Division I offers including Maine and Sacred Heart. Kurzweg went (35-10) on the wrestling mat last season. Although he’s leaning towards playing football in college, he noted that wrestling has been very beneficial. “It helps a tremendous amount with hand fighting. I’ve seen a big jump since I started wrestling,” said Kurzweg. The intense center with long hair is a fan of Jason Kelce and the Eagles. When he’s not working out, Kurzweg enjoys helping special needs students at Wilson.

Logan Hyde-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/logan-hyde-wyomissing/ https://berkssportsreport.com/logan-hyde-wyomissing/#comments Fri, 07 Jul 2023 13:11:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3659 For the first time since 2018, Wyomissing enters a season with a starting quarterback not named Zechman. Zach and most recently Ben Zechman have been under center for the Spartans. Logan Hyde will take over that position this fall. “I’ve been playing quarterback most of my life. I’m really excited. It’s a really big role at Wyomissing,” he stated. The 5’11, 185-pound rising senior started at safety last year when Wyomissing went (13-1) and reached the PIAA-3A semifinals. Hyde knows that the Spartans’ powerful rushing attack is a quarterback’s best friend. “We throw five times, maybe six times a game. It works every time. We have the one route [that] always works,” he said with a smile. Wyomissing averaged 330 rushing yards per game and 7.9 per carry a season ago. J’ven Williams, a freshman at Penn State, and PSU commit Caleb Brewer helped pave the way to a fourth consecutive District 3 championship. “You can’t feel more protected behind those guys. They just crush people. They’re so reliable, especially when they’re pulling. They’re specimens,” emphasized Hyde. He mentioned that Max Tipton and Jordan Gwyn are two players to keep an eye on up front this year. Both of them got playing time last season as sophomores. Hyde is a lacrosse standout for the Spartans. He racked up 71 goals and 21 assists this spring. His 92 points were the second-most in Berks County. Hyde has offers from Wagner and NJIT. He expects to make a decision soon. Hyde also plays basketball. I asked him about Wyomissing’s new head coach Garrett Etzel. “He’s a great leader. He really connects with us on a personal level,” noted Hyde. Etzel was a star guard at Gov. Mifflin and then Alvernia. As a multi-sport athlete, Hyde doesn’t have much free time. He enjoys golfing with his friends. We also talked about his favorite teachers and food.

Logan Klitsch-Conrad Weiser https://berkssportsreport.com/logan-klitsch-conrad-weiser-3/ Fri, 22 Oct 2021 23:11:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1888 In less than a half of action, Logan Klitsch threw for 139 yards and 4TD. He was 5-for-5 in a 62-30 win over Kutztown on senior night. Klitsch was emotional when I spoke with him after the game because he doesn’t know if he’ll ever play on this field in Robesonia again. The 6’3, 190-pound Dartmouth commit tossed 2TD to senior wide receiver Aanjay Feliciano. Klitsch said Feliciano makes everyone around him better. He had seven catches for 136 yards and 3TD against Kutztown. Klitsch told me that he wasn’t looking past the Cougars who fought hard with just 18 players in uniform. The (7-2) Scouts travel to Wyomissing next Saturday. Klitsch gave an update on his injured ankle which has limited his running lately. He also thanked the student section for its support. Klitsch leads the Berks Football League with 1,993 passing yards and 19TD passes this season. Conrad Weiser has won four in a row.

Logan Klitsch finished 16-21 for 330 yards and 3TD. He also used his legs to the tune of 145 yards and 4TD on 19 carries! Conrad Weiser beat the Tigers 52-38. Klitsch became the school’s career leader in passing yards with 3,757. Jim Debiec held the previous record with 3,682 yards. I asked Klitsch if he looks at his stats. We also spoke about his recent commitment to Dartmouth. Klitsch explained how he handles social media before a big game. He also gave credit to Fleetwood quarterback Tanner Maddocks who’s headed to Villanova.

It wasn’t a surprise that he was named the first team All-County QB and the Offensive Back of the Year in Section 2 of the Berks Football League. Klitsch is also an All-Division lacrosse and basketball player. The 6’3, 190-pound senior went 18-30 for 275 yards and a TD in the Scouts’ opener at Cocalico. He ran for 72 yards and two more touchdowns. Klitsch has 28 career TD passes; two shy of breaking Tyler Hoss’ school record. He’s just twenty passing yards shy of 3,000 for his career. Klitsch told me who his favorite NFL QB is and who he selected with his first pick in fantasy football. We also talked about the shark that he caught with teammate Nate Fizz. Plus, I asked Klitsch about his favorite classes at Conrad Weiser and if the Scouts can get back to the District 3 playoffs.
