linebacker – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Thu, 21 Aug 2025 15:47:49 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.1 Logan Cammauf-Schuylkill Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/logan-cammauf-schuylkill-valley/ Thu, 21 Aug 2025 15:43:17 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5040 Making 100 tackles in a high school football season is a great accomplishment. Logan Cammauf nearly doubled that number last fall at Schuylkill Valley. “I always love hitting somebody. I have a knack for the ball. I can always get there,” he said. The 6’1, 175-pound linebacker piled up 193 tackles, a new school record. Cammauf added three sacks and two interceptions which earned him a spot on the Class 3A All-State squad. The three-year starter is a weapon at running back as well. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry a season ago. Cammauf also plays basketball and is a standout jumper on the track & field team.

The Panthers have won nine games in back-to-back years. They claimed their first outright section championship in 2024 by going (7-0) in league play. “We’ve changed the culture. We’re a winning culture now,” emphasized Cammauf. Schuylkill Valley reached the District 3-3A semifinals last year before falling to Trinity 20-17 in overtime. Logan Nawrocki tossed a remarkable 37 touchdown passes in twelve games. He broke the school record for career passing yards with 5,109. Nawrocki and tight end Luke Spotts were All-State selections. Skill position players Cooper Hohenadel, Kowen Gerner, Dillon Lackner, and Johnny Kowalski were also lost to graduation. Alex Aletras, a 6’ junior, will take over at quarterback. “He has the potential to be really good,” noted Cammauf. The Panthers return six starters on each side of the ball, including some key linemen. Seniors Nick Moyer (6’1, 285) and Noah Sonon (6’1, 220) were both first team picks in Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League in 2024. They’re captains this year along with Cammauf and Aletras.

Bruce Harbach enters his fifth season as the head coach in Leesport. Harbach has an all-time mark of (165-75) over twenty years. He led Lancaster Catholic to two state titles, four District 3 championships, and eight section crowns before stepping down there in 2017. Harbach was inducted into the PSFCA Hall of Fame this summer. “His intensity, I fit right in with that. He pushes me, he pushes the whole team. He’s a great coach,” replied Cammauf. Schuylkill Valley went (2-9) in Harbach’s first season. However, it didn’t take the Wilson graduate long to turn things around. In 2022, the Panthers put together a winning season for the first time since 2013. They won just their second District 3 playoff game in program history in 2023.

Schuylkill Valley begins a new chapter tomorrow night when Muhlenberg heads up Route 61 to Leesport. The Muhls took this matchup 29-20 last fall. The Panthers will host Berks Catholic on September 26th. They’ll be home again on October 10th for the 51st Frost Bowl. Schuylkill Valley has a very slim (25-24-1) edge over Hamburg in the rivalry. “It’s always good to win, but it’s just another game on the schedule…We’re looking at District championships now, not Frost Bowls,” stated Cammauf. The Panthers wrap up the regular season with a big Section 5 battle at Lancaster Catholic.

Matt Kramer-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/matt-kramer-wyomissing/ Sat, 11 Dec 2021 19:49:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2231 Central Valley came into the Class 3A state championship game averaging 47.6 points per game. Wyomissing held the Warriors to one touchdown, but it wasn’t enough. Central Valley prevailed 7-0 to extend its winning streak to 27 games. The (15-0) Warriors defeated the (15-1) Spartans in the state final for the second straight year. Landon Alexander’s 28-yard TD run with 9:54 left was the difference. The 190-pound senior had a big day. He rushed for 231 yards on 35 carries. Alexander went over 200 yards for the fourth consecutive game. He holds the school record for career rushing yards with 4,161. Wyomissing outside linebacker Matt Kramer told me that Alexander has excellent patience. The Spartans got to see the Wildcat offense last week in the semifinals vs. Neumann-Goretti. Kramer said that helped them prepare for Central Valley. The 6’1, 210-pound junior collected a team-high eleven tackles. Kramer has learned a lot from playing alongside inside linebackers Jack Miller and Tommy Grabowski. He mentioned that effort, technique, and film study are the keys to being a great LB. Kramer added that the Wyomissing coaching staff does a great job of putting the players in the right position each week. Unfortunately, Warriors’ senior DT Sean FitzSimmons was also in the right position all afternoon at Hersheypark Stadium. He forced a fumble by Ben Zechman on 4th & goal from the 3-yard line with 6:30 remaining. Zechman never had a chance on the sprint out because of the 280-pound Pittsburgh commit. FitzSimmons made seven tackles and 1.5TFL. He piled up 21 sacks and 48.5TFL this season. Central Valley was able to milk the clock by picking up a first down on 4th & 1 from its own 18-yard line with four and a-half minutes to go. Quarterback Antwon Johnson got two yards on a sneak. Wyomissing was outgained 313 yards to 115. The Spartans went 2-12 on third down. J.J. Jackson gave them an early spark by blocking a 19-yard FG attempt on the opening series. Kramer said Jackson was a big addition at DT after moving to the area from New York. Wyomissing will be in good shape to make another deep playoff run next year. The junior class includes Kramer, Zechman, Jven Williams, Drew Eisenhower, Charlie McIntyre, Pacen Ziegler, and Jack Gartner among others. The 6’4, 310-pound Williams has several Division I offers including Penn State. Finally, Kramer was pleased to see so many fans make the trip to Hershey today.
