injury – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Mon, 05 Aug 2024 23:55:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Wilson hires Matt Raquet https://berkssportsreport.com/wilson-hires-matt-raquet/ Mon, 05 Aug 2024 23:55:43 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4335 Wilson has found its new girls basketball head coach. Matt Raquet was approved at tonight’s school board meeting. Raquet graduated from Holy Name in 2005. He was on the Blue Jays’ basketball, football, and track and field teams. Berks Catholic inducted Raquet into its Hall of Fame in 2016.

Raquet spent three years (2010-13) as a graduate assistant/video coordinator with the Temple women’s basketball team. His next stop at the Division I college level was Holy Cross. He was an assistant women’s basketball coach for the Crusaders from 2013-18. Raquet stepped down for family reasons, but later coached one of the top AAU programs in Philadelphia for four years. He moved back to Berks County a few years ago.

Chris Gallo resigned as Wilson’s head coach in early May. He had a record of (65-30) over four seasons. The Bulldogs went (24-5) this year and reached the state playoffs. They lost to Wyomissing 45-36 in the BCIAA championship and finished fourth in the District 3-6A tournament.

Wilson’s starting lineup this past season included four sophomores. Unfortunately, point guard Laila Jones suffered a torn ACL last month during an AAU tournament. The two-time All-County selection has 788 career points. Jones averaged a team-high 16 points as a sophomore.

Kingston McKoy Injury https://berkssportsreport.com/kingston-mckoy-injury/ Wed, 24 Jan 2024 10:43:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4017 Berks Catholic point guard Kingston McKoy underwent surgery for a fractured tibia on Wednesday morning. The promising 6’2 sophomore injured his left leg in the third quarter of Tuesday night’s game against Reading at Lloyd Wolf Gymnasium. McKoy’s leg was put in an aircast and he was taken to Reading Hospital.

The Saints trailed 47-37 with 2:31 remaining in the third quarter when McKoy went down awkwardly under the basket. Berks Catholic rallied to beat the Red Knights 61-59. Kingston’s older brother, Josh, had a go-ahead layup with six seconds left. The Saints remain undefeated at (14-0, 8-0). They’re on top of Division 2 in the Berks Conference.

Kingston McKoy entered the week averaging 16 points per game. He had five points before suffering the leg injury versus Reading. McKoy scored a career-high 29 points in a 77-73 overtime victory at Trinity on December 28th. He opened the season with 21 points in a 54-32 rout of Cedar Crest. McKoy was the sixth man a season ago when Berks Catholic went (23-5) and won the District 3-4A championship. He earned the reputation as an elite defender.

Longtime head coach Snip Esterly said recently, “Kingston is the No. 1 kid that gets everybody on the same wavelength. He’s an incredible leader.” Esterly noted that the sophomore made sure his teammates were attending their early morning workouts during the offseason. After the Saints won at Wilson 44-40 last Thursday, Josh McKoy remarked, “The sky’s the limit for him.”

Daniel Boone QB Injury https://berkssportsreport.com/daniel-boone-qb-injury/ Wed, 01 Sep 2021 17:40:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1532 I’m told that Daniel Boone quarterback Carter Speyerer suffered a broken right ankle early in the Blazers’ season opener against Wyomissing. Speyerer is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday. He will be out indefinitely. Speyerer is a three-year starter at Daniel Boone. The 6’1, 200-pound senior also played free safety. 5’11 sophomore Dean Rotter will take over at quarterback for the Blazers. Rotter went 10-17 for 73 yards and a TD vs. Wyomissing. The left-handed QB is known as a student of the game. The Spartans used a big third quarter to defeat Daniel Boone 41-14. The Blazers are on the road this Friday against Twin Valley. We’re wishing Carter a speedy recovery.
