Fleetwood Tigers – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Mon, 06 Apr 2026 21:30:16 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=7.0 “Roberts Rankings”-Baseball https://berkssportsreport.com/roberts-rankings-baseball-9/ Mon, 06 Apr 2026 21:30:16 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5505 Gov. Mifflin’s baseball team has been a juggernaut over the past two seasons. The Mustangs racked up 50 wins, along with state, district, and county championships. This season is still in its early stages, but there doesn’t appear to be a dominant force in the Berks League in 2026. More teams could fall into the good as opposed to great category. Pitching depth and defense will be key factors as the season progresses. At the high school level, many games are determined by walks and errors. Limiting mistakes and doing the little things well will keep you in most ball games.

Wilson is unbeaten in its three league contests. The Bulldogs have a very demanding non-league schedule. They lost to last year’s PIAA-6A runner-up North Penn and Owen J. Roberts by one run. West Chester commit Ben Kulp (3-1, 2.41) has 35 strikeouts and just five walks over 20.1 innings. The 6’2, 215-pound senior is also hitting .500 with a team-high 12 RBI.

Exeter is riding a three-game winning streak since falling to Wilson 14-5. Matt Woram is off to an unbelievable start. The junior has four home runs in only 15 at-bats! Woram is batting .400 and leads the Eagles with ten walks.

The rest of Division 1 is jammed up like Route 422 East near the Lancaster Avenue exit. Muhlenberg has a 4-2 victory over Gov. Mifflin on its resume, however, the Muhls lost to an improved Reading squad 7-4. Muhlenberg has a big week ahead with Exeter and Wilson making the trip to Laureldale on Wednesday and Friday respectively. Meanwhile, the Mustangs are trying to get back on track after losing to Wilson and Exeter by a combined score of 19-1 last week.

Division 2 leader Fleetwood has won three in a row. The Tigers squeezed past Daniel Boone 1-0 and Schuylkill Valley 12-11. Fleetwood has a tough test at home versus Exeter tomorrow.

Twin Valley is trying to overcome injuries to Nate DiRocco and Grant Moser. That’s not an easy task for the Raiders. Daniel Boone’s (2-6) record is deceiving. The Blazers have dropped three games by one run. On Saturday, they came up short to Boyertown 15-13 in twelve innings. Daniel Boone needs to improve its .213 team batting average.

Wyomissing sits atop Division 3. The Spartans have prevailed in all three of their league games. Ryan Graham, Teddy White, and Austin Lecher are each hitting .500 or higher. Hamburg, Berks Catholic, and Schuylkill Valley are lurking behind the Spartans. We will learn more about this division on Wednesday with a pair of rivalry matchups. Wyomissing visits Berks Catholic and Hamburg battles Schuylkill Valley on “Hawk Hill.”

Oley Valley is the hottest team in Berks County right now with five consecutive victories. The Lynx are (3-0) in league action and in first place in Division 4. Tim Fries (3-0, 0.76) has 29 strikeouts and just four walks over 18.1 innings. The senior is also batting .520 with a team-high 11 RBI and seven extra-base hits. Oley Valley defeated Kutztown 4-1 last Wednesday. The Cougars are stuck in a three-game losing skid.

It’s always tricky to compare teams this early in the campaign, especially considering the differences in strength of schedule. Remember that no matter where your favorite team is ranked, the sun will come out tomorrow! Without further ado, here are the “Roberts Rankings” for the Berks Baseball League.

“The Great 8”

1.Wilson (4-3)

2.Exeter (5-2)

3.Oley Valley (6-2)

4.Muhlenberg (2-3)

5.Gov. Mifflin (4-4)

6.Fleetwood (4-2)

7.Wyomissing (3-2)

8.Hamburg (5-3)

Berks Senior All-Star Games https://berkssportsreport.com/berks-senior-all-star-games/ Mon, 23 Mar 2026 02:10:45 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5484 The Berks County Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Games were held at Conrad Weiser High School on Sunday afternoon. The boys coaches in the BCIAA decided to switch things up this year. They opted to put seniors from Division 1 and Division 2 on the Red team and players from Division 3 and Division 4 on the Blue team. Fleetwood’s Mason Senna led the Blue squad to a 97-95 victory. The 6’2 guard poured in 23 points and knocked down four triples. Jonas Coste from Antietam added 13 points. Colgate commit Kingston McKoy of Berks Catholic finished with 24 points for the Red team. Gov. Mifflin’s Ian Fleming scored 15 points.

The girls senior All-Star Game wasn’t as close. The Red team prevailed 69-54. They were in front 39-28 at halftime. Wilson teammates Laila Jones and Laura Crocona combined for 27 points. Jones provided 15 points and connected three times from beyond the arc. Crocona, a Kutztown University commit, chipped in with a dozen points. They helped the Bulldogs claim BCIAA and District 3 championships this season. Elyssa Sellers from Schuylkill Valley had 14 points. Mekhira Gaskins of Reading ended up with a team-high 13 points for the Blue squad.

Best of luck to all of the seniors in their future endeavors. Today’s games put a wrap on the 2025-26 high school basketball season. I was fortunate to cover 60 games this year. Thanks to all of the coaches, players, and athletic directors for their assistance with my coverage.

Pangburn going from Fleetwood to Daniel Boone https://berkssportsreport.com/pangburn-going-from-fleetwood-to-daniel-boone/ Thu, 05 Feb 2026 18:51:37 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5403 Daniel Boone has found its next head football coach, while Fleetwood is beginning a search for one. Steve Pangburn is staying in the Lancaster-Lebanon Football League, but he’s changing teams. Pangburn resigned as the Tigers’ head coach after four years. He will become the Blazers’ new head coach, pending school board approval, on February 23.

Fleetwood went (13-28) over the past four seasons with Pangburn at the helm. The Tigers beat Shamokin 42-41 in overtime for the Eastern Conference Class 4A Championship in 2023. They finished (3-7) the following year. In 2025, Fleetwood won just two games. The Tigers have gone (0-12) in Section 3 of the L-L League in the last two seasons.

J.D. Okuniewski stepped down at Daniel Boone in November. He was the head coach in Birdsboro for three years. The Blazers finished (1-9, 1-6) this past fall. They were outscored 463-to-110. Pangburn is shifting from Section 3 to Section 4 of the L-L League.

Mason Senna-Fleetwood https://berkssportsreport.com/mason-senna-fleetwood/ Wed, 04 Feb 2026 13:44:51 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=5400 Overwhelming was the word Mason Senna used to describe his Senior Night experience. The 6’2 guard had tears of joy in his eyes after a thrilling 47-46 victory over Wyomissing. Senna, the lone senior in the Tigers’ starting lineup, sank a go-ahead free throw with 1.8 seconds left. “I was a little nervous, I won’t lie. I was feeling the nerves,” he acknowledged. Fleetwood trailed by eleven points in the third quarter of their final regular season game. The (12-10, 6-5) Tigers were down 46-39 with less than three minutes remaining. “We started to feel a sense of urgency. It just came from a place of wanting to win really badly,” explained Senna. Fleetwood is on the bubble of the District 3-5A playoff picture. The Tigers needed to beat the Spartans to keep their hopes of continuing their season alive. Senna knocked down three 3-pointers in the opening quarter and finished with a game-high 24 points. He was averaging 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.4 steals entering Tuesday’s contest. “I’ve coached a long time. He is probably the best athlete that I’ve ever coached. Not basketball player per se, but just an athlete,” emphasized head coach Jason Bieber. Senna is also an all-division soccer player.

The first four shots made by Fleetwood were all from beyond the arc. However, Wyomissing was on top 15-14 after the first quarter. Daniel Moyer, a 6’ senior forward, scored seven points in the first eight minutes. The (13-7, 8-3) Spartans went on an 8-0 run to begin the second period. Sophomore Brady Eisenhower, the quarterback of the football team, hit a pair of triples. Senna provided seven points in that quarter and the Tigers pulled within 29-27 at halftime. Wyomissing kicked off the second half with an 11-2 run, including a three-point play by Dom Arguelles. The 6’ senior point guard ended up with a team-high 20 points. Eisenhower chipped in with 13 points and Moyer added eight. The Spartans were in front 42-33 going into the fourth quarter.

Eisenhower and Arguelles converted layups to give the Spartans a 46-39 edge. A three-point play by Senna made it 46-42 with 2:48 left. Senna missed two foul shots with 2:20 to go, but he followed up his second attempt with a bucket. CJ Sallee then hit Eli Herndon with a bounce pass for a layup with 1:29 on the clock. A 7-0 run by Fleetwood in 80 seconds had tied it up at 46-46. Wyomissing opted to hold for the final shot. The Spartans committed a turnover with six seconds remaining which gave the ball back to the Tigers. Bieber ran a play called “53.” Senna inbounded it along his own baseline. He threw a short pass to Bryce Ryan and then ran deep like a wide receiver. Ryan lofted a long pass over the defense to Senna who was fouled as he was going to the basket. “That’s exactly the way we drew it up. It worked like a dream. I saw it coming before it happened and Bryce threw me a great pass,” noted Senna. He hit nothing but net on his first free throw with two seconds to play. Senna missed his second attempt, but the comeback was complete.

Fleetwood scored the final eight points and outscored Wyomissing 14-to-4 in the fourth quarter. “We definitely wanted to shut down their drives. That’s where they generate a lot of their points from,” replied Senna. The Spartans went 10-of-14 from the foul line and made four 3-pointers, all in the first half. Their seven-game winning streak came to a halt. Wyomissing and Schuylkill Valley are atop the Division 3 standings with (8-3) league records. The Spartans earn the division title by virtue of winning both meetings with the Panthers in the regular season. Wyomissing and Schuylkill Valley are headed to the BCIAA playoffs which begin on Monday with the quarterfinals. The Berks County girls basketball tournament starts this Saturday.

The Tigers finished 11-for-16 from the stripe. They connected six times from beyond the arc. Herndon had seven points, including five in the pivotal fourth quarter. Sallee and sophomore Josh Szilli helped the cause with six points apiece. Fleetwood swept Wyomissing this season. The Tigers took the first matchup 40-38 one month ago. Senna also led the way in that nailbiter with 19 points. “He’s such a great role model. He’s not a kid that’s arrogant. He wants everybody to do well. He wants to help everybody to be the best they can be including myself,” remarked Bieber. Fleetwood has improved dramatically from a (5-17) mark last year. The Tigers now wait to see if they get in the District 3-5A tournament. The top 16 teams qualify and Fleetwood is #18. Palmyra, Red Land, and Lampeter-Strasburg are currently ahead of the Tigers, but those schools still have games to play. If Tuesday was the final time that Senna puts on the Fleetwood uniform, he hopes that he made a positive impression. “I try to instill in them my work ethic. You can be as good as you want to be, you just have to work for it. I hope that I can really pass down that work ethic to them,” he said.
