Eric – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Sat, 27 Nov 2021 05:24:40 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.2 Eric Nangle-Exeter https://berkssportsreport.com/eric-nangle-exeter-3/ Sat, 27 Nov 2021 00:19:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2133 It may take some high school running backs four games to get 40 carries. Eric Nangle got that amount of touches in one game, and it happened to be with a District 3 championship on the line. Obviously, the Eagles’ coaching staff has a lot of faith in the 175-pound senior. He didn’t disappoint. Nangle ran for 223 yards and a touchdown in a thrilling 31-28 victory at top-seeded Gov. Mifflin. He also had a 33-yard TD catch that put Exeter up 21-7 midway through the second quarter. The (10-3) Eagles had lost 15 of their previous 16 matchups with the Mustangs, but they wouldn’t be denied on a cold and windy night in Shillington. They outgained Gov. Mifflin 399-to-219. Exeter finished with 238 rushing yards. The Eagles’ final possession took seven minutes and 35 seconds off the clock. Nangle described his go-ahead 31-yard TD run on 4th & 1 with 9:15 remaining. He gave credit to senior quarterback Colin Payne (3TD passes) and the offensive line. Nangle said he knew back in the preseason that this was a special team. Exeter had never appeared in a District 3 championship game before this year. The Eagles came into the postseason with a (4-11) all-time record in the District 3 playoffs. They doubled that win total in the month of November! Nangle rumbled for 332 yards and 5TD in the semifinals at Cedar Cliff. Exeter is only the third #7 seed to ever bring home a District 3 title. The Mustangs end up (10-1).

Eric Nangle-Exeter https://berkssportsreport.com/eric-nangle-exeter-2/ Fri, 15 Oct 2021 22:51:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1842 Eric Nangle was a workhorse in the Eagles’ 33-21 win at Berks Catholic. The 5’10, 175-pound senior ran 27 times for 131 yards and a TD. Exeter finished with 177 rushing yards. The Eagles scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives after trailing 21-14 in the third quarter. Nangle said they learned from last week’s loss to undefeated Gov. Mifflin. He gave credit to 220-pound FB Ty Yocum and the big guys up front. Nangle added that 6’6 junior Joey Schlaffer is going to be a beast. Schlaffer, who has several Division I offers, caught a 27-yard TD pass from Colin Payne to give Exeter a 26-21 lead with nine minutes remaining. Nangle knows that there’s still room for improvement, and the Eagles need to get out to faster starts. When I asked Nangle what it would mean to qualify for the District 3 playoffs, he replied “everything.”

Nangle told me that he’s back to 100% and it showed against Wilson. The 175- pound senior ran for 209 yards and 3TD on 22 carries! Nangle gave Exeter the lead for the first time on an 82-yard score with 1:38 left in the first half. The Eagles never looked back. They outgained the Bulldogs 271-98 on the ground. Exeter averaged 7.7 yards per carry in a 42-14 victory. Nangle gave credit to the coaching staff and his offensive line. He also said that the Eagles have several of the best players in Berks County.
