The (3-1, 0-1) Blue Streaks were ranked #9 in the state in Class 6A by PennLive. They had scored 66 combined points in their previous two games against Neshaminy and Central York. PJ Myers entered Friday with 377 rushing yards and 3 TD on 61 carries. The 5’10, 200-pound junior was limited to 39 yards on 14 touches by the Bulldogs. “That running back is a hell of a running back. He got a couple yards here and there, but for the most part we shut him down,” remarked Dahms. Manheim Township was held to 1.6 yards per carry. “I was really surprised they didn’t run counter the whole game. That was one of their best plays against Central York. I guess they just felt we were too quick off the edge,” added Dahms. Dayne Byler, a talented 6’3 junior, was 14-of-23 for 109 yards and two interceptions. His 90-yard touchdown pass to sophomore London Banks was erased due to an ineligible man downfield penalty with one minute remaining in the third quarter.

Brownback is the leader of a terrific linebacker corps that includes Matt Wyatt, Braydon Farrell, Jaiden Whitehurst, and Aiden Harmon. Wyatt and Farrell are both 215-pound juniors. Whitehurst, who also plays basketball, is only a sophomore. Wyatt finished with eight total tackles and an interception with 7:28 left to go. Brownback is a two-time state qualifier in wrestling. He has 101 career wins after going (37-8) last season. Brownback gave credit to the coaching staff for Friday’s performance. “The amount of film they watch is insane. I have no idea how they do it. They feed us the information perfectly…Coaches told me what they were gonna run and they’re always right,” he noted. Wilson’s defense forced a three-and-out on the opening series. Zymir Small, a transfer from Springfield, came up with an interception on the final play. It was a fitting ending to a defensive masterpiece.

The Bulldogs marched 58 yards in just over 90 seconds on their first possession. Senior quarterback Cole Peterson scrambled 12 yards on third-and-11 to keep the drive alive. Speedy junior Damian Greer then raced 43 yards down the right sideline. That set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Justice Hardy out of the wildcat formation. The Louisville commit returned after missing last week’s game at Muhlenberg due to an injury. Hardy provided 28 yards on 14 carries. The Blue Streaks also did a solid job on the defensive side of the ball. Chase Fletcher racked up eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Nate Fletcher contributed seven tackles and a pair of interceptions. The junior defensive backs are part of a set of triplets. Manheim Township forced three turnovers. Peterson went 16-of-22 for 148 yards with two picks. Wilson gained 276 total yards, but committed a dozen penalties for 152 yards.

The Bulldogs’ defense came up big with 3:28 remaining in the first half. They stuffed Dehvyn Lauano on fourth-and-1 at the 26-yard line. The ensuing drive resulted in a 35-yard field goal by sophomore Preston Oxenreider as time expired. That kick gave Wilson a 10-0 edge at the break. It followed a 21-yard pass to Glover and a 15-yard face mask penalty. Glover, who’s committed to James Madison, reeled in eight passes for 91 yards. The 6’3, 230-pound senior is a two-time All-State selection at tight end. He came up with a pivotal play with three minutes to go in the third quarter. Hardy fumbled at the 1-yard line and Glover alertly pounced on the loose ball for a touchdown. “That was huge. That was probably the play of the day. Just one hell of a player, I love Mike,” said Brownback. Glover’s recovery put the Bulldogs on top 17-0. They prevented the Blue Streaks from getting their 500th win in program history. After a 35-23 loss at Central Bucks West, Wilson has outscored its last two opponents 59-6.
