Eisenhower – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Tue, 13 Aug 2024 16:17:55 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Chase Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/chase-eisenhower-wyomissing-2/ Tue, 13 Aug 2024 16:12:20 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4349 Wyomissing is starting the season with a bang. The Spartans host Southern Columbia on August 24th. “There’s been a lot of buzz about it. We know how good they are so we’re gonna come ready to play for them,” said Chase Eisenhower. The Tigers have won seven consecutive state championships and fourteen overall. Jim Roth will be looking for his 500th career victory. Wyomissing head coach Bob Wolfrum has a few wins under his belt as well. 362 to be exact. They’re the two winningest active coaches in Pennsylvania. Wolfrum is preparing for his 38th season at the helm of the Spartans. They’ve claimed five straight District 3 titles. Wyomissing has gone (61-6) over the past five seasons. J’ven Williams and Caleb Brewer have moved on to Penn State, but Eisenhower remains very confident in the offensive line. “They look as good as we’ve ever been…I feel like we’re just as good. We have a lot of depth,” stated Eisenhower. The 5’11, 220-pound rising junior rumbled for 1,092 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Eisenhower, a three-year starter, also made a team-high 70 tackles from his inside linebacker position. Max Tipton, Caleb Beane, and Francisco Fabian return up front. Tipton will be shifting from tackle to guard. Their Wing-T attack piled up 312 yards per game on the ground last fall. The Spartans finished (12-2, 6-1) after falling to Northwestern Lehigh 33-24 in the PIAA-3A semifinals. Eisenhower mentioned that tight end Andrew Bresnahan is a player to keep an eye on this season. Fans will definitely be focused on rising sophomore Justice Hardy. He averaged nearly nine yards per carry, scored a dozen touchdowns, and made four interceptions in 2023. “It’s always great knowing that guy can get a touchdown or first down whenever he wants,” noted Eisenhower. The Spartans bring back six starters on defense and four on offense. Tyler Niedrowski and Derek Macrina are key figures on both sides of the ball. While much remains the same in Wyomissing, there is one significant change. The Spartans have been bumped up to Class 4A. They’ve reached at least the state semifinals in four consecutive years.

Chase Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/chase-eisenhower-wyomissing/ Sat, 25 Nov 2023 11:36:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3914 Wyomissing led District 4 champion Danville 27-19 at halftime of the PIAA-3A quarterfinals. The (12-1) Spartans pulled away for a 48-27 victory on a cold and windy night at Albright’s Shirk Stadium. “I think we came out with more momentum. The intensity was much higher. We just played Wyo football,” said Chase Eisenhower about the final 24 minutes. The Spartans’ potent Wing-T attack resulted in 465 rushing yards on 57 carries. Eisenhower reached the end zone four times. The 215-pound sophomore FB/LB rumbled for 93 yards on 17 carries. “Definitely the most fun [game], definitely the coldest too. It was all around a great win,” remarked Eisenhower. The (12-2) Ironmen struck first on a wide receiver screen to Aaron Johnson that turned into a 50-yard touchdown down the right sideline. Johnson set a new state record on that play with his 28th TD catch of the season. The 5’11, 170-pound senior had eleven receptions for 103 yards. Wyomissing responded with an 85-yard drive that included a 60-yard run by junior halfback Derek Macrina. He provided 92 yards on ten touches. Eisenhower powered in from two yards away to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. They went up 13-6 on Ryker Jones’ 79-yard sprint down the right sideline. The Princeton commit piled up 153 yards and two scores on nine carries. Danville answered with an 82-yard march that was capped by Bo Sheptock’s 2-yard run. It was even at 13-13 after the opening quarter. Wyomissing went in front 19-13 on Collin Niedrowski’s 7-yard touchdown run early in the second period. The Ironmen took over at the Spartans’ 6-yard line after a muffed punt. Sheptock, a transfer from Berwick, added another 2-yard TD to tie it at 19-19 with 8:10 remaining before halftime. Both teams caught the turnover bug late in the second quarter. There were two interceptions and two fumbles in the final three minutes, but only one giveaway led to points. Collin Niedrowski picked off Madden Patrick and returned it to the 5-yard line. A 5-yard run by Eisenhower made it 27-19 with 20 seconds to go after Eisenhower’s two-point conversion. The District 3 champs put together a 91-yard possession that lasted seven minutes and 27 seconds in the third quarter. It included a clutch fourth-and-seven pass from Logan Hyde to freshman Justice Hardy to the 18-yard line. Jones’ 4-yard TD gave Wyomissing a 34-19 edge with eleven seconds to play in the period. Eisenhower tacked on scoring runs of one and fifteen yards in the fourth quarter. He credited the offensive line which includes 6’5, 290-pound Penn State commit Caleb Brewer. “They were amazing. They always are…They all block great,” emphasized Eisenhower. He surpassed 1,000 yards for the season. Meanwhile, Patrick went 24-of-36 for 221 yards with 2TD. The 6’1, 180-pound junior ends the year with nearly 3,300 passing yards and a staggering 48 TD in 14 games. Johnson had 66 catches for just shy of 1,500 yards this season. Danville entered the night averaging 43 points. The Ironmen were limited to eight points in the second half. The Spartans will meet District 11 champ Northwestern Lehigh in the state semifinals. “We’re trying to make our own legacy. It’s exciting,” said Eisenhower.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-4/ https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-4/#comments Sun, 28 Aug 2022 12:15:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2970 The Spartans may have lost five all-state selections to graduation, but there’s still plenty of talent at Wyomissing. If you’re not sure, just ask the Kennard-Dale Rams. They fell behind 21-0 in less than ten minutes on Saturday afternoon. Wyomissing outgained Kennard-Dale 407-73 in a 49-0 victory. Senior HB/S Drew Eisenhower noted that their preseason scrimmage at North Penn was very beneficial. “I think it was a great scrimmage for us, especially how big they are. They’re a really good team. I think going out and competing with them made us better. I know that for a fact,” he said. Matt Kramer had all three touchdown runs in the first quarter. “He’s very fast, very hard runner. He can lower the shoulder, lower the boom. He’s gonna do big things for us this year,” Eisenhower raved. Kramer, a 215-pound senior FB/OLB, finished with a team-high 68 yards on seven carries. Eisenhower’s 39-yard touchdown catch from Ben Zechman made it 35-0 with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter. “We’ve grown up together and we’ve always thrown together. We have great chemistry. Everyone on the team does. We’re all very, very close to each other,” said Eisenhower. Zechman was 5-of-8 for 128 yards and a score. Eisenhower stressed that having the ability to throw is important. He replied, “It would be a huge step for us. I know teams are gonna expect the run. If we can hit them with a play-action pass, it’s gonna be a big play for us.” The Spartans’ Wing-T attack racked up 279 rushing yards against Kennard-Dale. Eisenhower chipped in with 46 yards on three carries. His brother, Chase, added 27 yards and a 4-yard TD blast early in the fourth quarter. Chase is only a freshman, but he’s already taller than Drew. “I’m happy to play with him. We get along great. We always do everything together outside of sports so we’re really close,” Drew Eisenhower stated. Chase is a 210-pound fullback with a bright future. Drew joked that he can win their wrestling matches now, however, that may change in a few months. Their father, Chad, is a member of the Wyomissing Football Association Hall of Fame. Charlie McIntyre (4 carries/41 yards) broke off a 23-yard touchdown run with one minute left in the first half. Sophomore Derek Macrina (3 carries/49 yards) provided an interception and a 7-yard touchdown run. Junior safety Logan Hyde picked off Garrett McCleary’s pass on the first play from scrimmage. That was one of three turnovers forced by Wyomissing. Eisenhower enjoys playing games on Saturday. “They’re the best. The whole team loves it. We wouldn’t trade anything [in] the world to do this. Nothing is better than that,” he responded. The Spartans return five starters on offense and three on defense from last year’s (15-1) squad. I asked Eisenhower if they can be even better in 2022. He said, “We do have the potential to be, but we’ve just got to keep progressing every game; just take it one game at a time and hopefully, at the end of the year, we’ll see if we can be better.” Wyomissing has gone (36-3) over the past three seasons with three straight District 3 titles. The Spartans lost to Central Valley in the last two Class 3A state finals. They won’t be meeting again because Central Valley was bumped up to Class 4A. Eisenhower also discussed their upcoming road game versus Pottsville and his favorite teacher.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-3/ Sat, 27 Nov 2021 19:12:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2149 The Spartans are moving on to the Class 3A state semifinals after an impressive 35-14 victory over Scranton Prep at Gov. Mifflin. Wyomissing improved to (14-0). The Cavaliers saw their perfect season come to an end. The District 2 champs finish (11-1). The Spartans reached the end zone on their first three possessions. Drew Eisenhower was responsible for two of those touchdowns, and he was just getting started. The 185-pound junior ran for 133 yards on 14 carries. I asked Eisenhower about his offensive line. He said, “They’re all monsters.” Wyomissing had success running on the edge against Scranton Prep. Eisenhower loves seeing 6’4, 310-pound junior Jven Williams out in front of him. Williams has received several Division I offers. The Spartans opened the second half with a 12-play, 66-yard TD drive that took six and a-half minutes off the clock. Eisenhower had a big smile on his face when we discussed that series of plays which put Wyomissing up 28-7. The Spartans piled up 319 yards on the ground. They didn’t put the ball in the air once. Senior fullback Tommy Grabowski rumbled for 61 yards and 2TD on 15 carries. He’s over 1,250 yards this season with 25 scores. Amory Thompson chipped in with 64 yards and a touchdown on twelve carries. Eisenhower, Grabowski, and Thompson start on defense as well. They held the Cavaliers to 84 yards through three quarters, and 40 of that total came on a fake punt by Rob Rossi. Aiden Mack came up with two sacks for Wyomissing. Junior running back London Montgomery left after just one offensive series due to an injury. He entered the game with 2,353 yards and 35TD. Eisenhower said you never want to see anyone get hurt. Montgomery had seven yards on three carries. The Spartans will take on Neumann-Goretti in the semifinals. Eisenhower knows that won’t be an easy game. The Saints shutout Danville 28-0 in the quarterfinals.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-2/ Sat, 23 Oct 2021 16:51:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1898 In a Wing-T offense, the running backs have to make the most of their carries. Drew Eisenhower certainly did that against Schuylkill Valley on Saturday afternoon. The 5’11, 185-pound junior ran for 142 yards on just four carries including a 46-yard TD. He wasn’t done there. Eisenhower opened the second half with an 84-yard kickoff return TD to give the Spartans a 42-0 advantage. He gave a lot of credit to Amory Thompson for his blocking on the return. Eisenhower said Ben Zechman is doing a great job at quarterback. Zechman went 3-for-3 for 30 yards and 2TD vs. the Panthers. Eisenhower loves running behind TE Aiden Mack and OT Jven Williams. Mack is committed to Richmond. Williams, a 310-pound junior, has several Division I offers. Drew’s father, Chad, was a standout RB at Wyomissing. Drew told me that he tries to imitate his dad’s running style. Drew also mentioned that the win over Southern Columbia this season gave the Spartans a lot of confidence. Wyomissing is (9-0) and ranked third in the state in Class 3A. They host Conrad Weiser next Saturday.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing/ https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing/#comments Sat, 18 Sep 2021 17:28:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1685 Chad Eisenhower is in the Wyomissing Football Hall of Fame. His son, Drew, is making a name for himself this year. Drew had a 50-yard TD catch on an out and up early in the third quarter vs. Hamburg. That gave the undefeated Spartans a 28-7 lead. It was Eisenhower’s first reception of the season. They went on to win 47-7. The 5’11, 185-pound junior added 19 yards and a TD on six carries. Eisenhower said he loves playing on Saturday. He also told me who the best wiffle ball and Madden NFL players are on the football team. Plus, he explained why he’s a Dallas Cowboys’ fan!
