Drew – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Thu, 05 Oct 2023 21:34:26 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Drew Engle-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-engle-twin-valley/ Thu, 05 Oct 2023 17:27:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3807 People across the state have noticed what is happening on the gridiron in Elverson. Twin Valley is undefeated, averaging 41 points, and ranked #10 in Class 4A by PennLive. “When we put in work and then it pays off on Friday nights, it’s so much fun,” said Drew Engle. Opponents aren’t having any fun trying to slow down Engle. The 5’10, 175-pound sophomore is averaging an eye-popping 12.6 yards per carry with seven touchdowns. He leads the (6-0, 3-0) Raiders with 847 rushing yards. Engle has gone over 100 yards five times this season. He piled up 198 yards and two scores against Fleetwood in Week 4. The young speedster finished with 190 yards and a touchdown versus Lower Dauphin in Week 2. Engle gave credit to his offensive line which averages 269 pounds. “They’re massive. They’re some of our hardest workers. It makes me feel safe running behind a bunch of big boys,” he replied. Left guard Paul McClune and tackles Aris Drake and Sam Donnellan are each between 290-and-295 pounds. Right guard Greyson Miller and center Noah DiGiacomo have cracked the starting lineup as sophomores. Twin Valley is averaging 329 yards per game on the ground. Junior Evan Johnson is just shy of 800 yards this year. He and Engle have formed a powerful 1-2 punch. They’re both sprinters on the track team. Engle also plays lacrosse. The Raiders host unbeaten Garden Spot on Friday. First place in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League is up for grabs. Spartans’ quarterback Kye Harting has thrown for 1,098 yards and rushed for 747. He has 31 combined touchdowns. Engle also starts at safety while carrying a 3.8 GPA. “This will probably be one of the biggest games I’ll be in, really excited for that one,” he said.

Drew Forrey-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-forrey-wyomissing/ Fri, 08 Sep 2023 13:03:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3751 Matthew Kramer, Charlie McIntyre, and Drew Eisenhower combined for more than 3,100 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns a season ago. The (13-1) Spartans won their fourth consecutive District 3 championship and reached the state semifinals. All three running backs graduated which means more opportunities for Drew Forrey. The 6’4, 210-pound senior put on twenty pounds in the offseason. He had a 59-yard TD catch and a 3-yard TD run in last week’s 41-7 rout at Pottsville. Wyomissing dismantled Kennard-Dale 56-7 in its opener. Despite the lopsided scores, Forrey knows there’s more work to be done. “We’re obviously happy with (2-0), but I think there’s still a lot the team can do to get better,” he acknowledged. The Spartans cruised past Trinity 35-14 last year. They expect a much tougher challenge in their Week 3 matchup with the Shamrocks. Trinity is ranked #3 in Class 2A by PennLive. Wyomissing comes in at #2 in 3A. Sophomore Messiah Mickens already has 419 yards on the ground for Trinity. The Penn State commit is averaging 14.4 yards per carry with six touchdowns. “He’s definitely pretty good. We’re trying to get prepared for him, but also the rest of the team. We’re not taking them lightly,” stated Forrey. The Spartans are riding a 37-game regular season winning streak. They have a Penn State commit of their own in 6’5, 290-pound T/NG Caleb Brewer. Ryker Jones, who’s headed to Princeton, was cleared for full contact at practice on Wednesday. However, the All-State linebacker isn’t expected to play until next week. Jones suffered a knee injury at the end of last season. Wyomissing has plenty of depth in the backfield with Chase Eisenhower, Collin Niedrowski, Derek Macrina, Marvin Armistead, and promising freshman Justice Hardy. Forrey, who also plays linebacker, is on the basketball and track & field teams. He averaged eight points as a junior on the court. “It gets you in a competitive mindset for all realms of sports,” said Forrey. He also excels in the classroom. Forrey carries a lofty 5.1 GPA. Forrey replied, “My parents have really pushed me, especially when I was younger, to try to keep straight A’s.” The Spartans hope to receive high marks on the gridiron once again this fall.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-4/ https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-4/#comments Sun, 28 Aug 2022 12:15:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2970 The Spartans may have lost five all-state selections to graduation, but there’s still plenty of talent at Wyomissing. If you’re not sure, just ask the Kennard-Dale Rams. They fell behind 21-0 in less than ten minutes on Saturday afternoon. Wyomissing outgained Kennard-Dale 407-73 in a 49-0 victory. Senior HB/S Drew Eisenhower noted that their preseason scrimmage at North Penn was very beneficial. “I think it was a great scrimmage for us, especially how big they are. They’re a really good team. I think going out and competing with them made us better. I know that for a fact,” he said. Matt Kramer had all three touchdown runs in the first quarter. “He’s very fast, very hard runner. He can lower the shoulder, lower the boom. He’s gonna do big things for us this year,” Eisenhower raved. Kramer, a 215-pound senior FB/OLB, finished with a team-high 68 yards on seven carries. Eisenhower’s 39-yard touchdown catch from Ben Zechman made it 35-0 with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter. “We’ve grown up together and we’ve always thrown together. We have great chemistry. Everyone on the team does. We’re all very, very close to each other,” said Eisenhower. Zechman was 5-of-8 for 128 yards and a score. Eisenhower stressed that having the ability to throw is important. He replied, “It would be a huge step for us. I know teams are gonna expect the run. If we can hit them with a play-action pass, it’s gonna be a big play for us.” The Spartans’ Wing-T attack racked up 279 rushing yards against Kennard-Dale. Eisenhower chipped in with 46 yards on three carries. His brother, Chase, added 27 yards and a 4-yard TD blast early in the fourth quarter. Chase is only a freshman, but he’s already taller than Drew. “I’m happy to play with him. We get along great. We always do everything together outside of sports so we’re really close,” Drew Eisenhower stated. Chase is a 210-pound fullback with a bright future. Drew joked that he can win their wrestling matches now, however, that may change in a few months. Their father, Chad, is a member of the Wyomissing Football Association Hall of Fame. Charlie McIntyre (4 carries/41 yards) broke off a 23-yard touchdown run with one minute left in the first half. Sophomore Derek Macrina (3 carries/49 yards) provided an interception and a 7-yard touchdown run. Junior safety Logan Hyde picked off Garrett McCleary’s pass on the first play from scrimmage. That was one of three turnovers forced by Wyomissing. Eisenhower enjoys playing games on Saturday. “They’re the best. The whole team loves it. We wouldn’t trade anything [in] the world to do this. Nothing is better than that,” he responded. The Spartans return five starters on offense and three on defense from last year’s (15-1) squad. I asked Eisenhower if they can be even better in 2022. He said, “We do have the potential to be, but we’ve just got to keep progressing every game; just take it one game at a time and hopefully, at the end of the year, we’ll see if we can be better.” Wyomissing has gone (36-3) over the past three seasons with three straight District 3 titles. The Spartans lost to Central Valley in the last two Class 3A state finals. They won’t be meeting again because Central Valley was bumped up to Class 4A. Eisenhower also discussed their upcoming road game versus Pottsville and his favorite teacher.

Drew Fidler-Muhlenberg https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-fidler-muhlenberg/ Sun, 24 Apr 2022 09:37:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2687 Don’t be fooled by Drew Fidler’s 5’9, 150-pound frame. The junior lefty knows how to pitch. He’s an extremely valuable arm out of the Muhlenberg bullpen. Fidler proved that again Saturday night against Wilson at Owls Field in West Lawn. The southpaw tossed 2.1 innings of hitless relief with five strikeouts and one walk. The (10-0, 6-0) Muhls beat the (4-6, 3-2) Bulldogs 6-5 on Wilson’s “Senior Night.” Fidler told me that all of his pitches felt great in the bullpen, including his curveball. He struck out the side in the seventh inning which sparked a Muhlenberg celebration. Fidler mentioned that he had a ton of confidence because his teammates trusted him. He enjoyed playing under the lights in front of a big crowd. Luis Beato opened the scoring in the top of the first on a passed ball. The Muhls’ all-division center fielder reached on a 2-out, infield single off of Rueben Livingston. The Bulldogs answered with three runs on one hit in the bottom of the first. Brad Coley started the frame with two walks before hitting Livingston. Lucas Gensemer hit an RBI single to left, one of just two hits for Wilson on the night. Ryan Sekulski knocked in a run on a 4-6-3 double play. The final run of the inning came across on a wild pitch. Coley, a left-hander who’s headed to Alvernia, allowed five runs over 4.2 innings with eight strikeouts and six walks. Muhlenberg tied it at 3-3 in the fourth. Gio Cavanna and Cameron Burr provided 2-out, RBI singles. Cavanna went 1-for-1 with 3RBI out of the No. 9 spot. The right fielder also made a great catch up against the fence in foul territory. Burr finished 2-for-5. The Muhls loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth. Livingston nearly worked out of the jam, but a wild pitch with two outs gave Muhlenberg a 4-3 advantage. After a walk, the Kent State commit was replaced by Jake Kope who immediately hit Cavanna to force in a run. Livingston was charged with five runs, one earned, on seven hits and three walks. The 6’3, 225-pound righty struck out four. Livingston has only given up one earned run in 19 innings this year. The Bulldogs committed three errors on Saturday. Wilson responded with two runs in the bottom of the 5th. Livingston increased his batting average to a team-high .348 with a double. Freshman Christo Hunsicker contributed with an RBI groundout. The Bulldogs knotted the score at 5-5 on an error by Kenay Rodriguez. The Muhls’ senior shortstop bounced back with a leadoff double to left in the seventh. He was 2-for-4 with two runs. After a walk and sacrifice bunt, Cavanna delivered a sacrifice fly to put Muhlenberg back on top 6-5. Fidler shut the door in the bottom of the seventh. He’s (4-0) with a save. Kope took the loss after allowing one run on two hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. Although the Muhls have won ten in a row, Fidler knows there’s always room for improvement. They’re an experienced ball club that’s taking it one game at a time. Fidler said, “Everybody contributes. That’s what I love about our lineup; I trust every guy.” I asked him which teammates would be the toughest for him to face. Fidler emphasized that Muhlenberg has a deep pitching staff to go along with very solid defense. We discussed Monday’s highly anticipated matchup with Gov. Mifflin. The Mustangs are on top of Division 1 at (13-0). They’ll square off with the Muhls at 4pm in Shillington. As for the Bulldogs, they’re still searching for ways to produce runs. Wilson is hitting .173 as a team. The Bulldogs are averaging 4.4 runs. They put up eight runs per game last season when they went (22-3) and captured the District 3-6A championship. Wilson lost twelve seniors and four Division I players from the 2021 squad.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-3/ Sat, 27 Nov 2021 19:12:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2149 The Spartans are moving on to the Class 3A state semifinals after an impressive 35-14 victory over Scranton Prep at Gov. Mifflin. Wyomissing improved to (14-0). The Cavaliers saw their perfect season come to an end. The District 2 champs finish (11-1). The Spartans reached the end zone on their first three possessions. Drew Eisenhower was responsible for two of those touchdowns, and he was just getting started. The 185-pound junior ran for 133 yards on 14 carries. I asked Eisenhower about his offensive line. He said, “They’re all monsters.” Wyomissing had success running on the edge against Scranton Prep. Eisenhower loves seeing 6’4, 310-pound junior Jven Williams out in front of him. Williams has received several Division I offers. The Spartans opened the second half with a 12-play, 66-yard TD drive that took six and a-half minutes off the clock. Eisenhower had a big smile on his face when we discussed that series of plays which put Wyomissing up 28-7. The Spartans piled up 319 yards on the ground. They didn’t put the ball in the air once. Senior fullback Tommy Grabowski rumbled for 61 yards and 2TD on 15 carries. He’s over 1,250 yards this season with 25 scores. Amory Thompson chipped in with 64 yards and a touchdown on twelve carries. Eisenhower, Grabowski, and Thompson start on defense as well. They held the Cavaliers to 84 yards through three quarters, and 40 of that total came on a fake punt by Rob Rossi. Aiden Mack came up with two sacks for Wyomissing. Junior running back London Montgomery left after just one offensive series due to an injury. He entered the game with 2,353 yards and 35TD. Eisenhower said you never want to see anyone get hurt. Montgomery had seven yards on three carries. The Spartans will take on Neumann-Goretti in the semifinals. Eisenhower knows that won’t be an easy game. The Saints shutout Danville 28-0 in the quarterfinals.

Drew Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-eisenhower-wyomissing-2/ Sat, 23 Oct 2021 16:51:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1898 In a Wing-T offense, the running backs have to make the most of their carries. Drew Eisenhower certainly did that against Schuylkill Valley on Saturday afternoon. The 5’11, 185-pound junior ran for 142 yards on just four carries including a 46-yard TD. He wasn’t done there. Eisenhower opened the second half with an 84-yard kickoff return TD to give the Spartans a 42-0 advantage. He gave a lot of credit to Amory Thompson for his blocking on the return. Eisenhower said Ben Zechman is doing a great job at quarterback. Zechman went 3-for-3 for 30 yards and 2TD vs. the Panthers. Eisenhower loves running behind TE Aiden Mack and OT Jven Williams. Mack is committed to Richmond. Williams, a 310-pound junior, has several Division I offers. Drew’s father, Chad, was a standout RB at Wyomissing. Drew told me that he tries to imitate his dad’s running style. Drew also mentioned that the win over Southern Columbia this season gave the Spartans a lot of confidence. Wyomissing is (9-0) and ranked third in the state in Class 3A. They host Conrad Weiser next Saturday.

Drew Campbell-Schuylkill Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/drew-campbell-schuylkill-valley/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 19:47:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1734 Imagine throwing two TD passes, running for two scores, AND catching a TD pass…all in one game! Drew Campbell of Schuylkill Valley accomplished that feat in a win vs. Upper Perkiomen this season. Campbell then figured out exactly how many fantasy football points his effort was worth. No, seriously he did. In case you’re wondering, Campbell said senior WR Kyle Spotts is the best fantasy football player on the Panthers’ team. Campbell is a very versatile player, spending time at QB and FB. The 190-pound senior ran for 107 yards and a TD on 20 carries last week. He also tossed a TD pass in a 28-8 victory over Kutztown. Campbell is a busy guy. He’s on the Schuylkill Valley baseball team and plans to play basketball this year. Plus, find out what type of music he enjoys.

His son, Drew, is making a name for himself this year. Drew had a 50-yard TD catch on an out and up early in the third quarter vs. Hamburg. That gave the undefeated Spartans a 28-7 lead. It was Eisenhower’s first reception of the season. They went on to win 47-7. The 5’11, 185-pound junior added 19 yards and a TD on six carries. Eisenhower said he loves playing on Saturday. He also told me who the best wiffle ball and Madden NFL players are on the football team. Plus, he explained why he’s a Dallas Cowboys’ fan!
