The Spartans host Southern Columbia on August 24th. “There’s been a lot of buzz about it. We know how good they are so we’re gonna come ready to play for them,” said Chase Eisenhower. The Tigers have won seven consecutive state championships and fourteen overall. Jim Roth will be looking for his 500th career victory. Wyomissing head coach Bob Wolfrum has a few wins under his belt as well. 362 to be exact. They’re the two winningest active coaches in Pennsylvania. Wolfrum is preparing for his 38th season at the helm of the Spartans. They’ve claimed five straight District 3 titles. Wyomissing has gone (61-6) over the past five seasons. J’ven Williams and Caleb Brewer have moved on to Penn State, but Eisenhower remains very confident in the offensive line. “They look as good as we’ve ever been…I feel like we’re just as good. We have a lot of depth,” stated Eisenhower. The 5’11, 220-pound rising junior rumbled for 1,092 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Eisenhower, a three-year starter, also made a team-high 70 tackles from his inside linebacker position. Max Tipton, Caleb Beane, and Francisco Fabian return up front. Tipton will be shifting from tackle to guard. Their Wing-T attack piled up 312 yards per game on the ground last fall. The Spartans finished (12-2, 6-1) after falling to Northwestern Lehigh 33-24 in the PIAA-3A semifinals. Eisenhower mentioned that tight end Andrew Bresnahan is a player to keep an eye on this season. Fans will definitely be focused on rising sophomore Justice Hardy. He averaged nearly nine yards per carry, scored a dozen touchdowns, and made four interceptions in 2023. “It’s always great knowing that guy can get a touchdown or first down whenever he wants,” noted Eisenhower. The Spartans bring back six starters on defense and four on offense. Tyler Niedrowski and Derek Macrina are key figures on both sides of the ball. While much remains the same in Wyomissing, there is one significant change. The Spartans have been bumped up to Class 4A. They’ve reached at least the state semifinals in four consecutive years.

Chase Kegerise-Oley Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/chase-kegerise-oley-valley/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 16:30:30 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=4172 Trying to predict the Berks Baseball League this year has been as difficult as trying to keep the fields dry. Oley Valley entered the weekend with four losses in its first six contests. The starting pitcher for the Lynx, Chase Kegerise, hadn’t been on the mound in two and a-half weeks due to a leg injury. Meanwhile, Berks Catholic was (5-1) and unbeaten in its first three league games. The Saints sent Parker Nein to the hill on Saturday afternoon. The Penn State Harrisburg commit was (2-0) with a sparkling 0.62 ERA. Oley Valley put three runs on the board in the first inning and cruised to a 7-1 victory. The Lynx and Saints are now tied atop the Division 3 standings. “This game was the most important game of the season. They’re a really good baseball team. We needed this win,” said Kegerise. The sophomore lefty allowed one run on six hits over 5.1 innings. Kegerise, an all-division pick last year, relied on his fastball while throwing 90 pitches. He struck out three and only issued one walk. Kegerise noted, “Just getting outs is what it’s all about.” Senior shortstop Paul Petersen took over with two runners on and one out in the bottom of the 6th inning. The All-County selection gave up just one hit in 1.2 innings of relief. Petersen did damage at the plate with a RBI double to right-center in the first frame. “It’s amazing. He’s a really good pitcher, really good teammate. I love him,” said Kegerise. Nate Firek added a RBI single and Kegerise followed with a sacrifice fly to left in the 1st inning. Oley Valley tacked on two more runs in the 2nd on a single by Gryffin Cappellano. The second run scored when the ball was mishandled in left field. Nein was charged with seven runs, six earned, on five hits over 2.1 innings. The senior walked three and hit a batter. Junior Brock Shrawder walked Colin Remmel and sophomore Tim Fries with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning to make it 7-1. The Lynx drew seven walks and finished with eight hits. Petersen and Cappellano combined for four hits. They each scored one run and drove in another. Cappellano, a sophomore catcher, was on base four times. Petersen is batting .458 this season. Dillon Walls had three of Berks Catholic’s seven hits. The sophomore second baseman ripped a leadoff double and scored on Aidan Curley’s single to center. Curley was then thrown out at home on an attempted double steal. The (5-2, 3-1) Saints were limited to four hits after the 1st inning. Mikey Fidler tossed four scoreless innings for Berks Catholic. The junior gave up three hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Oley Valley won the Division 3 title and reached the District 3-3A semifinals a season ago. After a slow start, they’re looking to get back on track. “Hopefully, this turns our season around,” stated Kegerise.

Chase Eisenhower-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/chase-eisenhower-wyomissing/ Sat, 25 Nov 2023 11:36:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3914 Wyomissing led District 4 champion Danville 27-19 at halftime of the PIAA-3A quarterfinals. The (12-1) Spartans pulled away for a 48-27 victory on a cold and windy night at Albright’s Shirk Stadium. “I think we came out with more momentum. The intensity was much higher. We just played Wyo football,” said Chase Eisenhower about the final 24 minutes. The Spartans’ potent Wing-T attack resulted in 465 rushing yards on 57 carries. Eisenhower reached the end zone four times. The 215-pound sophomore FB/LB rumbled for 93 yards on 17 carries. “Definitely the most fun [game], definitely the coldest too. It was all around a great win,” remarked Eisenhower. The (12-2) Ironmen struck first on a wide receiver screen to Aaron Johnson that turned into a 50-yard touchdown down the right sideline. Johnson set a new state record on that play with his 28th TD catch of the season. The 5’11, 170-pound senior had eleven receptions for 103 yards. Wyomissing responded with an 85-yard drive that included a 60-yard run by junior halfback Derek Macrina. He provided 92 yards on ten touches. Eisenhower powered in from two yards away to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. They went up 13-6 on Ryker Jones’ 79-yard sprint down the right sideline. The Princeton commit piled up 153 yards and two scores on nine carries. Danville answered with an 82-yard march that was capped by Bo Sheptock’s 2-yard run. It was even at 13-13 after the opening quarter. Wyomissing went in front 19-13 on Collin Niedrowski’s 7-yard touchdown run early in the second period. The Ironmen took over at the Spartans’ 6-yard line after a muffed punt. Sheptock, a transfer from Berwick, added another 2-yard TD to tie it at 19-19 with 8:10 remaining before halftime. Both teams caught the turnover bug late in the second quarter. There were two interceptions and two fumbles in the final three minutes, but only one giveaway led to points. Collin Niedrowski picked off Madden Patrick and returned it to the 5-yard line. A 5-yard run by Eisenhower made it 27-19 with 20 seconds to go after Eisenhower’s two-point conversion. The District 3 champs put together a 91-yard possession that lasted seven minutes and 27 seconds in the third quarter. It included a clutch fourth-and-seven pass from Logan Hyde to freshman Justice Hardy to the 18-yard line. Jones’ 4-yard TD gave Wyomissing a 34-19 edge with eleven seconds to play in the period. Eisenhower tacked on scoring runs of one and fifteen yards in the fourth quarter. He credited the offensive line which includes 6’5, 290-pound Penn State commit Caleb Brewer. “They were amazing. They always are…They all block great,” emphasized Eisenhower. He surpassed 1,000 yards for the season. Meanwhile, Patrick went 24-of-36 for 221 yards with 2TD. The 6’1, 180-pound junior ends the year with nearly 3,300 passing yards and a staggering 48 TD in 14 games. Johnson had 66 catches for just shy of 1,500 yards this season. Danville entered the night averaging 43 points. The Ironmen were limited to eight points in the second half. The Spartans will meet District 11 champ Northwestern Lehigh in the state semifinals. “We’re trying to make our own legacy. It’s exciting,” said Eisenhower.
