Eddie Case missed Wilson’s first two games due to a right elbow injury suffered in the preseason. The 6’2, 170-pound senior was thrilled to be back for a Week 3 matchup against Cheltenham. “It was great. It was hard watching the games on the sideline…I was really excited for this moment,” said Case. He wasted no time getting to work at John Gurski Stadium on Saturday night. Case was left wide open over the middle for a 74-yard touchdown catch just over four minutes into the game. About five and a-half minutes later after a Panthers’ fumble, he reeled in a 34-yard TD grab to put the Bulldogs up 21-0. Case finished with six receptions for 173 yards in a 40-26 victory over the (0-2) Panthers. The lanky wide receiver also plays lacrosse and carries a 4.0 GPA. A 4-yard run by Nick Fiorini made it 26-0 with 1:27 remaining in the opening quarter. The game was postponed four minutes into the second quarter because of heavy thunderstorms. It was resumed late Monday afternoon. “It was a really weird feel. We all came out flat. The energy wasn’t there on the field. I don’t want to ever play a Monday game again,” stated Case. Tommy Hunsicker’s 8-yard run gave Wilson a 33-0 advantage midway through the second quarter. The 185-pound senior quarterback ran for three scores. Hunsicker went 21-27 for 291 yards and 2 TD through the air. “He puts it all on the line. He battles like it’s his last play every single play. I’ve never seen a guy work so hard,” emphasized Case. Hunsicker was sacked six times. Tre McLeod’s 34-yard touchdown run on third-and-10 got Cheltenham on the board with 4:40 left in the first half. McLeod returned a fumble 89 yards to the house one minute into the third period. The 5’10, 190-pound senior running back has several Division I offers including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Nebraska. His 81-yard punt return touchdown got the Panthers within 40-26 with 5:24 to go. Cheltenham recovered an onside kick, but its drive stalled at the Bulldogs’ 36-yard line after a wild scramble by senior quarterback Jonathan Ingram on fourth-and-20. Ingram was 12-40 for 148 yards with an interception. He added a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter. Wilson outgained Cheltenham 403-231. There were a staggering 133 plays and 26 penalties for 271 yards. Fifteen flags went against the Panthers for 142 yards. At the end of a long day, the Bulldogs avoided an (0-3) start for the first time since 1965. “It’s so big. It’s so crucial. We had to win,” said Case.

Eddie Case can’t understand why any team would kick the football to Cam Jones. “I don’t know why they would do that. That’s probably the dumbest thing they could do,” said Case. After Wilson’s defense forced a three-and-out on the opening possession, Gov. Mifflin punted the ball near the right sideline. It didn’t go out of bounds and Jones took advantage. The Class 6A all-state pick raced 56 yards for a touchdown. It’s his fourth punt return score this year! Jones returned seven kicks for touchdowns a season ago. The 5-11, 185-pound senior ran for 139 yards and two more scores in a 32-14 victory over the Mustangs. I asked Case what makes Jones such a special player. He replied, “He wants it more than anybody else. He’s always our leader. I just feel like he has the most heart out of everybody on the field.” Jones took off 29 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter. The Holy Cross commit added a 2-point conversion to put the (5-1) Bulldogs on top 22-7. That series gave Wilson momentum following a 14 play, 70-yard drive by Gov. Mifflin. Delsin McNeil hit Jackson Parker for a 22-yard score on fourth-and-eleven. However, the (2-4) Mustangs wouldn’t reach the end zone again until 16 seconds remained on the clock and Wilson’s starters were out of the game. Ben Rada nailed a 36-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. The Bulldogs were up 25-7 at the break on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Shillington. Wilson blew it open on the first drive of the third quarter. Tommy Hunsicker found Case on a post for a 24-yard touchdown. “Their safeties were down. We knew that if Cam is on the other side of me, we can go deep on my side every single time,” explained Case. The 6’3, 160-pound junior finished with five catches for 99 yards. He told me that Hunsicker is his best friend which helps the QB-WR relationship. Hunsicker was 7-of-12 for 113 yards. The 185-pound junior ran ten times for 68 yards. The Bulldogs outgained the Mustangs 372-179. Governor Mifflin was held to 3.3 yards per carry and managed just 78 yards in the second half. Wilson racked up 259 rushing yards while averaging 6.6 yards a pop. The 65th meeting of these schools included 23 penalties. The Bulldogs committed 16 for 151 yards. They were still able to extend their winning streak to five. Case emphasized that he wanted to help the seniors get a win versus their archrival, especially after how things went last year. Nick Singleton and the Mustangs rolled to a 42-14 victory over the Bulldogs in 2021. “It just cut through me. I was like, I don’t want this to ever happen again,” said Case. Wilson has prevailed in nine of the past twelve matchups with Gov. Mifflin. McNeil was limited to 29 yards on 15 carries. Ayden Martin, who’s headed to Monmouth, had 35 yards and a late score on eleven touches. Rafael Fernandez and Isaiah Casseus each made seven tackles for the Bulldogs. Nick Crocona added six tackles and Nick Weitzel provided 2.5 sacks. Wilson is allowing 15 points per game. The Bulldogs lead the series with the Mustangs (38-27). The rain may have impacted the attendance, but it didn’t put a damper on Wilson’s celebration with the Gurski-Linn trophy.
