Brett – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Mon, 22 Aug 2022 14:30:25 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Brett Myers-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/brett-myers-middletown/ Mon, 22 Aug 2022 10:13:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2914 Brett Myers has been around high school football for a long time. He spent six years as the head coach at Pottstown. He served as an assistant at Exeter for a handful of seasons. Most recently, the Middletown graduate was the head coach at his alma mater. Over eight years, he led the Blue Raiders to a record of (72-22). They captured District 3 gold in 2016-18. Myers stepped down after the 2020 season. When the Twin Valley School District decided to open its head coaching position, Myers jumped at the opportunity. “When you run comprehensive programs year round, you can see so much growth out of kids. You miss that. When you realize you miss that, you gotta get back into it,” he said. Myers believes there are similarities between Twin Valley and Middletown. He replied, “We’ve got a hard-working community with a ton of athletic success. We plan on using that same exact type of road map that we used there; blocking and tackling and doing things the right way.” Myers is pleased with the number of players coming up through the youth program and the junior high. He has an experienced quarterback who he’s very familiar with. Evan Myers is his son. “I’ve prided myself on treating kids like they’re my children, and coaching them hard and loving them up afterwards. This is no different. The only difference is that if I coach him up too hard, I gotta hear from his mother,” he joked. Evan threw for 1,454 yards last year and helped the (6-5) Raiders reach the District 3 playoffs for the first time. The 5’10, 170-pound sophomore completed 54% of his passes with ten touchdowns and nine interceptions. He’ll be looking for a new #1 target. Trey Freeman graduated after breaking the Berks County record with 2,250 career receiving yards. Dom Caruso has also moved on after rushing for a school-record 3,684 yards. Myers likes the depth and size that he has on the offensive line with Masen Ketner, Paul McClune, Ben Savidge, Connor Phillips, Sam Donnellan, Noah Roehm, and sophomore Aris Drake. Myers likes to spread the field while using a Wing-T blocking scheme. Twin Valley’s top tackler returns in 220-pound junior Ean Winchester. The all-county wrestler and lacrosse player made 89 stops a season ago. “He’s got motor. He’s a wrestler and those guys can go forever. He’s a physical guy. He runs to the ball,” said Myers. Winchester went (36-5) on the mat at 215 pounds. He was a second team linebacker in Section 2 of the Berks Football League. Myers isn’t too concerned about the merger with the Lancaster-Lebanon League. He candidly stated, “I don’t think much about it. We worry about ourselves. To be honest with you, I don’t think I can name our section. I’m not even sure who’s in it.” The Raiders are in Section 3 of the new 37-team league. They’re joined by Daniel Boone, Fleetwood, Elizabethtown, Solanco, Garden Spot, and Ephrata. Twin Valley begins its season on Friday at Schuylkill Valley. The Panthers return the majority of their starting lineup. The Raiders are looking to build off their first winning year since 2007.

Brett Organtini-Conrad Weiser https://berkssportsreport.com/brett-organtini-conrad-weiser/ Tue, 31 Aug 2021 19:37:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1507 Brett Organtini was a first team All-County DL last year for the Scouts. He made a team-high 48 tackles in 7 games and was named the DL of the Year in Section 2 of the Berks Football League. The 170-pound senior has made the transition from nose guard back to linebacker this season. Organtini got off to a great start with 15 tackles (10 solo) in the opener at Cocalico. I asked Organtini if he went 1-on-1 with the Scouts’ star QB Logan Klitsch, could he keep him out of the end zone? Organtini told me about his favorite NFL LB’s. He also revealed that he’s a Broncos’ fan. Conrad Weiser faces Muhlenberg this week. Organtini talked about the biggest key to the game.

Evan Myers-Twin Valley https://berkssportsreport.com/evan-myers-twin-valley/ Mon, 30 Aug 2021 19:41:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1483 The Raiders’ football team has 48 players on its roster and 16 are freshman. One of the ninth graders is the starting quarterback. Evan Myers was an efficient 8-11 for 143 yards and a TD in Twin Valley’s season opening win over Garden Spot. The Raiders prevailed 27-24 in overtime. Myers told me that he has been watching game film since he was five years old. His father, Brett, was the head coach at Middletown for eight seasons. He guided the Blue Raiders to three consecutive District 3 titles and three appearances in the Class 3A state championship game from 2016-‘18. Evan loves talking football with his dad. He also told me about his favorite movies.
