Aiden – Berks Sports Report https://berkssportsreport.com Paul Roberts Wed, 06 Dec 2023 04:35:22 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 Aiden Soumas-Fleetwood https://berkssportsreport.com/aiden-soumas-fleetwood-2/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 23:29:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3938 Fleetwood won 22 games last season and reached the state playoffs for the first time since 1990. Jake Karnish, the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,420 points, has moved on to King’s College. The Tigers showed on Tuesday night in Robesonia that the cupboard isn’t bare. They spoiled Conrad Weiser’s home opener with a 55-43 victory. The (1-1) Scouts pulled within 37-33 early in the fourth quarter after two layups by 6’4 junior Gavin Rapp. Following a timeout by Fleetwood coach Terry Sitler, the Tigers went on an 18-10 run to close it out. Fleetwood had five seniors in the starting lineup, while Conrad Weiser started five juniors. “This was nothing compared to what we saw in the Giant Center and in our state game. This was a crazy environment, but we definitely handled it well,” said Aiden Soumas. The 5’11 senior finished with 14 points including six in the opening period. He made three free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining to put the Tigers up 20-5 after eight minutes. The Scouts committed four turnovers in the first 90 seconds. They ended up with 16, twice as many as Fleetwood. Donovan Gingrich was limited to ten points. The 6’1 all-division guard erupted for a career-high 31 on Saturday at Antietam. The Tigers led 27-15 at halftime before Gingrich opened the third quarter on a personal 5-0 run. Conrad Weiser’s junior quarterback went 2-of-3 from the foul line with 0.1 seconds to go in the third period. Fleetwood was on top 37-29 entering the fourth quarter. Hunter Svoboda had a game-high 17 points. The 6’8, 270-pound senior is committed to William & Mary for football. “When he gets it in there, it’s going up and he’s gonna make it most of the time. He’s got such a big advantage on the other guys,” noted Soumas. Point guard Nate Herb chipped in with ten points. The All-County soccer player jammed seven points into the final period. Each team connected just three times from beyond the arc. Junior point guard Brady McKee provided 17 points for the Scouts. They were without 6’4 junior Josh Plummer due to an ankle injury. Conrad Weiser was 12-of-21 from the free throw line, while Fleetwood shot 10-of-16. The Tigers have a mix of multi-sport athletes. Wide receiver Mason Musitano, a 6’2 senior, is playing basketball for the first time since 9th grade. Soumas is headed to Kutztown University for baseball. “I really like the coaching staff out there, great group of guys. It’s just a great atmosphere. I couldn’t ask for a better place,” he replied. Soumas and company aren’t too shabby on the court either.

Aiden Soumas-Fleetwood https://berkssportsreport.com/aiden-soumas-fleetwood/ Wed, 01 Mar 2023 14:40:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=3454 It’s been 33 years since Fleetwood won a District 3 championship in boys basketball. The (22-3) Tigers get a shot at gold on Thursday afternoon at the Giant Center. They face #1 seed Berks Catholic in the District 3-4A Final at 12:45pm. “That was our goal this year. It’s honestly a dream come true going to Hershey and playing on that big stage,” said Aiden Soumas. Fleetwood won the Division 3 title in the Berks Conference for the second straight season. The Tigers are averaging 62 points and allowing just 42 per game. No team from Berks County is giving up fewer points. “We’re all friends off the court too so that helps a lot. We’re never getting down on ourselves or each other,” added Soumas. The junior guard, who also plays baseball and golf, provides 14 points a night. He’s a two-time, all-division selection. Fleetwood is led by Jake Karnish, the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,378 points. The 6’2 senior was voted to the all-county team for the second consecutive year. “He’s a great teammate too, not just a player. He’s a great scorer. He distributes the ball well [and] rebounds. He can really do everything,” noted Soumas. Junior guard Nate Herb chips in with 9 ppg. 6’3 senior forward Braden Williams has splashed a team-high 34 shots from beyond the arc. Hunter Svoboda, a 6’7 junior center, finished with a career-high 15 points in the District 3 semifinals. The second-seeded Tigers took apart third-seeded Littlestown 58-37 on Monday. Soumas knows that they’re in for a tougher challenge against the (22-4) Saints. He replied, “They’re gonna be very athletic. They’ve played on the bigger stage a lot more than we have. We always gotta believe in our team…hopefully come out with the win.” We also discussed his favorite TV show, musical artists, and teachers. Since he’s making a trip to “Chocolate Town”, I asked Soumas about his top choice when it comes to candy. What would it mean to return to Fleetwood with a gold medal? “It would be crazy…winning that would be an insane feeling,” said Soumas.

Aiden Mack-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/aiden-mack-wyomissing-3/ Sat, 20 Nov 2021 22:51:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2089 When you run the Wing-T offense, the ball isn’t going to be in the air very much. However, the Spartans know that they have a reliable target in tight end Aiden Mack. The 6’4, 220-pound senior is committed to Richmond. Mack had two catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in Wyomissing’s 55-14 rout of (11-2) Boiling Springs in the District 3-3A championship. Mack described his 24-yard TD grab which put the (13-0) Spartans up 49-14 late in the third quarter. It came on a play that Mack loves to run. Wyomissing ran for 430 yards and scored touchdowns on eight of its last nine possessions. Mack gave credit to the entire offensive line including 6’4, 310-pound junior Jven Williams who has numerous Division I offers. Mack said Ben Zechman has done a great job in his first year as the starting quarterback. The 6’3 junior was 4-6 for 90 yards and 2TD with an interception. The Spartans earned their tenth District 3 title and pulled off a three-peat. They’re (38-18) all-time in the District 3 playoffs. Mack talked about why the Wyomissing football program continues to thrive. He mentioned that head coach Bob Wolfrum is a man of few words. Wolfrum has won 335 games over 35 seasons. He guided the Spartans to the 2012 state championship. Wyomissing will meet Scranton Prep in the state quarterfinals next week. Mack knows that they’ll be facing a really talented running back in London Montgomery. He has 2,360 rushing yards this year. Montgomery piled up 200 yards on 32 carries in the District 2 Final vs. Wyoming Area.

Aiden Gallen-Gov. Mifflin https://berkssportsreport.com/aiden-gallen-gov-mifflin/ Fri, 19 Nov 2021 23:26:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=2077 Aiden Gallen is making a name for himself late in the season. The 185-pound fullback ran for 213 yards against Berks Catholic at the end of the regular season. Gallen got 25 carries in the District 3-5A semifinals vs. #4 seed Spring Grove. He piled up 164 yards and a touchdown in the 38-13 victory. The Berks Catholic transfer told me that the transition to Gov. Mifflin has been an easy one. Gallen got the (10-0) Mustangs on the board early in the second quarter on a 9-yard run. The (10-2) Rockets got within 17-13 in the third quarter, but Gallen and Nick Singleton were too much to handle. The PSU commit had 190 yards and 3TD on 20 carries. Gallen has known Singleton for a long time so he’s used to seeing him make amazing plays. Gallen said offensive line coach Nick Morrissey does an outstanding job and gets everyone fired up. Gov. Mifflin finished with 537 total yards including 436 on the ground. Starting FB Trey Rock is playing through an injury. While Rock is focusing on his linebacker position, Gallen is getting more touches. Gallen mentioned that he has a better understanding of the offense now and he’s fresh. I asked Gallen what would happen if he had to tackle Singleton. His answer was priceless! Gallen loves playing on the turf in Shillington. The top-seeded Mustangs will be back there next Friday when they meet (9-3) Exeter for the District 3-5A championship.

Aiden Mack-Wyomissing https://berkssportsreport.com/aiden-mack-wyomissing-2/ Sat, 23 Oct 2021 17:54:00 +0000 https://berkssportsreport.com/?p=1902 Aiden Mack caught his first touchdown pass of the season in a 49-0 victory over Schuylkill Valley. The 6’4, 220-pound TE only has five receptions this year, but Mack understands that it’s simply part of playing in a Wing-T offense. He told me about the play that the Spartans called on his 5-yard TD, and how it has worked very well for him in the past. Mack is a devastating blocker and a versatile DE. The Spartans’ defense held the Panthers to 73 total yards and just 54 on the ground. I asked Mack about junior RB Drew Eisenhower who ran for 142 yards and a TD on four carries against Schuylkill Valley. Mack responded, “He’s going to be a stud.” Mack discussed his relationship with junior QB Ben Zechman. We also talked about next Saturday’s matchup vs. (7-2) Conrad Weiser. The Section 2 championship in the Berks Football League will be on the line! Mack knows that the Scouts have some elite offensive weapons. Plus, we spent some time on the importance of sportsmanship which is something that the Wyomissing coaches stress. The Spartans are (9-0) and ranked #3 in the state in Class 3A.

Aiden Mack remains very confident about the 2021 version of the Spartans. The standout tight end is committed to Richmond. He told me why the Spiders’ program is a great fit for him. Mack’s tremendous blocking ability helped Wyomissing average nearly 45 points per game last season. You’ll find out that Mack also has a good sense of humor when he chats about what he likes to do off of the football field.
